ping problem :(

i play counter-strike and my ping was always at a constant 50, which is good. but now out of no where my ping keeps spiking to 500 or 800. i know my rates are set up fine. i have no clue what the problem is  plz help.

AOL is notorious for causing lag. If you use AOL try swithing to msn 8.0 or something of that nature. If you don't use AOL disregard this.

First thing I'd do is run a virus/adware/spyware scan...

Yeah, make sure you don't have any extra/unknown processes running. Are you also sharing a connection like over a router? Someone else might be using another computer connected to it and that will cause you to spike since you're on broadband. It does over here anyway.
