Has anyone heard anything good and/or bad about the service, StarBand? For those of you who do not know what this is, it is a sattelite service, which is good for two things. One sattelite to receice both TV signals and a connection for teh internet thru the same satellite. Let me know =) Thanks.

I heard a while back that they were expensive, and mostly slow (only like a 15k/s connection... 3 times as fast as modem). That was at least a year ago though, so they might be better now.

cant speak about the specific company, but satellite isps arent good for gaming, at least. the ping times are horrendous even on good days. and the weather will affect your reception. as well as trees and buildings. think about it before you decide. unless youre in the boonies on lead phone lines, you probably should go with ground transmission.

satellite links were designed to be mobile, not high quality.

A friend has it. About $150 - $180 a month with a bunch of channels and internet access. He has it simply because he can't get Cable TV.

It works.

Ok. Well I have gotten a lot of opinion from a lot of different places, and they all say the same things - don't do it. They say you will get downloads of 250 - 500 kbps, but that is very doubntable

The only thing in my area is Dialup 56k, and thats not cutting it, but I guess it is going to have to, for now at least....
