Lexmark X75 all in one

Well, for beginners, I've practically tried everything, and I'll list all I've done. But you gotta know the specs on the old junker first.

AMD K6-III 450mhz clocked to 400 for heat reasons
Some alladin super socket 7 mobo 33/66/100FSB
256mb of ram
WD 13.4gb hard disk
Matrox Millenium 4mb PCI Graphics card (woohoo)
Windows XP Pro

The system runs slower than hell in any respect, but my father doesn't do much but browse and use YIM. He doesn't need 3.0Ghz of speed, so the system runs decent enough for him. Now for the printer.

Lexmark X75 All in one Printer/Scanner/Copier USB model.

Problem: Print jobs will not completely finish, and lock the printer until the system is rebooted. I've found that the print task manager keeps the current document in the que as 99% finished, even when deleted. Nothing I can do from there so, this is where the problem solving began. First the most obvious.

Updated windows, and reinstalled all associated printing software and applications, including resetting the printer virtual port settings for USB print jobs, and reinstalled the network associations that had to do with printing; seeing as how it in some way could have been associated.

So, with all the software, and windows setup right; the printer still locked. Scanner worked just fine, and the copier part had nothing to do with windows, so it worked fine as well. Still didn't know what to do, so started the process of elimination.

New cable, different usb port, and even a usb card. Nothing there.

New software updates? Nope none were available, so I reinstalled the lexmark crap again. Still nothing.

Did quite a few adjustments trying to figure it out, including windows "help guide" which led to problems I've already worked through. Seemed like I'd have to call the support line.

So, they were about as helpful as the windows guide, and understanding that lady was entirely too difficult. Finally get someone who I could understand, and we went through most of the things I went through. Finally I gave up, and dad went at it some by himself, as I went to a movie. My father, the most unknowning computer user, who still needs assistance figuring out how to work notepad did something he couldn't remember and it magically started working. Until 3 days ago.

I've went through all the processes again, to no avail. I am honestly stumped. I've tried the unit on my PC, and everything works just right, so it's something with his PC, I just can't figure out what it'd be.

All the IRQ's are fine, the USB is set perfectly as per the lexmark manual, and it's getting all the right power. I am completely stumped, specially since he's not using my PC for his printing, and I need to get it working on his system. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe a bios update? thats about the only thing you didn't mention. For what its worth, I had an AMD K6II 333mhz system with w98 and then 2000. I could never get any usb to work with it.

Well, the BIOS is flashed with 3.7? I believe that's the version, but there are no later updates for it, as it's an OLD board. Everything else works on it's USB though...
