Painkiller

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone here has had an oppertunity to play Painkiller? I'm not 100% sure if it's been release yet or not (I've had a copy sent though by the publishers PR company), but if it's not released yet, this thread can sit here until it is.
Anyway, my impressions of the game is that it's trying to be a mix between Doom 3 and Serious Sam:
Doom 3, because it's got very nice looking graphics with a hell of a lot of detail (although I've got an old machine, so it does not run as good as it could do, plus I've no idea what it looks like at max settings, etc..). also because of it's theme.. the undead, horror, blood, guts, etc..
Serious Sam, because from what I've played of it so far, the levels are very basic, no real tallent it needed to find your way around, and because of the TONS AND TONS of creatures you kill... no skill needed.. 1 or 2 shots is more than enough.
It's so simple in fact, the very first weapon you get is a weird kinda of chainsaw.. not truly a chain saw, but a 4 bladed thing that spins around... no need o shoot anyone, just run into them with the blades wizzing, and down they go..
Anyway, I'm only on the 3rd level myself (got bored with it), has anyone else got further than this.. and does anyone else have any opinions about the game?

Painkiller is the first game in a long time that I really like alot. Usually my first impression of any game is that it sucks, this one I loved from the start. The gameplay is pretty repetitive though, so I might get bored with it fast. On the other hand, there are alot of things you can collect while playing it and you can go back to any level at any time to search for things you missed the first time, so that's defenitely gonna keep me playing longer.
One of the things that's great about this game is the engine. I can run it with everything on max detail and it doesn't slow down at all.
The physics engine is cool too (although not really realistic), especially when pinning your enemies to the wall with the stake gun, they just hang there with whatever part you shot the stake through.
Another thing I like is that the bosses are HUGE, and you can't always kill them by just shooting at them, sometimes you need to do something else to harm them (ok, so I only saw two bosses yet, but one of them couldn't just be shot ).
And of course the tarot cards are a good addition too. Every level there's a specific way to earn a tarot card (for example: don't collect any souls, find all holy items, or only use stakes to finish the level. And there are alot more than just those three ways). There are black and silver cards, the silver ones are always activated (but you can only use two of those at the same time), the black ones can be activated once per level (you can use three at the same time of these). There are 12 black and 12 silver cards total from which you can choose (after you've collected them of course). Some of the effects of the cards include slowmotion (for the monsters only, you still move just as fast), half damage from enemies, double damage to enemies, leech souls from a distance, souls stay longer, and lots more.

Try that in the later levels, you're probably not going to like it.

I'm on the third level of chapter three right now, collected all the tarot cards so far too.
But like I said earlier, single player probably gets boring pretty fast even though there's alot more to do than in other games (like serious sam) where you can only shoot everyone. The multiplayer might be fun though, haven't tried that yet. It's a little weird that they "forgot" to make a cooperative more for the multiplayer part of the game, it would've fitted the game perfectly.

I only have the demo and havemnt gotten the full game yet . In any case i really liked the game; no strategy, just shoot everything that does and deosnt move (cuz it'll prolly move anyway). Its a great game and my fave weapon was the spinning blade/chainsaw/ hookshot? thing. The Bosses are IMMENSE though. Looks like a cool game and i really want to get the full game as soon a spossible.

I admit that I'm not very far into the game, and I'm sure that as it goes on, it will get better... I just can't bring myself to play it at the moment... It might not slow down on your machine, but it does on mine, even when I run at 800x600 (and I'm used tor unning games at 1280x1024).
I think i'm going to wait for my new computer (within a month with some luck) then give it another go.
(ps, i'm not getting email notification for some reason )
