geforce4

Posted by: Daemonicus

Ok, that was the first time I have ever used that quick reply form. Can you all see my IP address or is it just me?

Posted by: LOZZa

nah it is jus u! so wud u say that a PNY Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 PCI 128mb graphics card wud be gud enough?

Posted by: redwench

only moderators and you can see your ip.

yes, that would be one of the best pci card chipsets on the market (ati also has a chipset of equivalent performance). although pny is evil.

I wouldn't get a GFFX 5200 though, they aren't very fast. Mine has problems with splinter cell (the original) and BF1942.

Ice: PNY isn't as great of a company as, say, MSI. I have bought 3 sticks of ram from them and it won't go more than 2mhz over stock speeds. I also have 3 gfx cards from them and the only problem I can find is the lack of cooling...they need better fans.

Don't overclock - it's simply wrong.. http://213.246.40.109/images/perso/whistlev.gif

I disagree

taco_fox> an old story...actually I was being sarcastic (damn, I thought these smilies were expressive enough..http://213.246.40.109/images/halalala.gif)

Posted by: redwench

and i agree with taco. overclock your little heart out. just accept responsibility if you fry something.

Posted by: taco_fox

I know I have

I will - when I see fit. My current mboard does not support Zalman's CNPS7000 (you know, that oversize, 20 cm wide radial heatsink - the only one deemed well suited for serious AMD overclocking). I'll make sure my next board does, then I'll go up 1mhz at a time

cough

If you want a sort of 'safe' overclocking card, get a gainward. They come with an OC utility that keeps you from burning out the card. Although theres still risk of it, the kind of cooling they have and the limits of that prog are much safer than just OCing it yourself.

Ice: you of course would never overclock...and you would certainly never weasel a respectable cpu maker out of a good 80 euros...

Posted by: IceBreaker

Of course not. Now how could you get such a silly idea.. http://213.246.40.109/images/perso/jaykin.gif

oh btw in this case "respectable" was out of place. "Respectable crooks" if you prefer, more appropriate

Hey now, you may have a problem with your local shop, but there's no need to diss AMD.

Posted by: IceBreaker

Yes I bore a grudge against the shop - mostly.

But you might find this of some interest. AMD is basically letting their customers down.

It's easy to see through their little scheme, actually - get us to overheat & fry our CPUs so we'll have to purchase a newer one sooner http://forum.msi.com.tw/images/msi/smilies/redface.gif

I've read that article before...it doesn't bother me, however, because if you ask me, I'd say there's no reason to buy an AMD chip over an Intel unless you plan on overclocking, which voids the warrenty anyway. Unless of course, you plan on simply buying an amd because it's cheaper...in that case I doubt you'd even know what 60C+ temps are, let alone care that your cpu is running hot...

Are you trying to say that amd cpu's at stock speed run at 60C+?

Posted by: IceBreaker

Well an AMD 3200+ running with the standard Ajigo heatsink - recommended by AMD ("recommended" for their own sake..) and thermal pads - also recommended by AMD, if not compulsory as of late - yes, 60°C doesn't sound far-fetched to me..

BiX VT> yes, the lower price is pretty much the only thing that has me stick to AMD.

The latest AMDS may have both the SSE2 of the P4 PLUS AMD's own 3Dnow! circuitry, and may be faster than their Intel brethren, but the prices for these chips are not what I'd call "competitive" http://213.246.40.109/images/mad.gif

Outlaw: I wasn't saying that AMDs run 60+ all the time, but my friend's barton 2500+ runs 60 with the retail thermal pad and hs/fan. AMDs can run that hot, they have a threshold of 90 I think but I prefer to run mine around 30.
