After installing a new HDD ( 7200 rpm Western Digital 8mb Cache ) i noticed that my computer seemed to be going really really slow, programs began crashing.. I formatted and it became quick again then the slowness kicked in. I know its not my hdd because its more newer and better than my first and original one. i got 512 DDR PC-3200 RAM, AMD 2200XP cpu.. Any idea?? please help

well, if a format fixes things for a while, youre picking up junk. get an antivirus scan, a spyware scan and run them regularly. also use their blocking abilities. schedule them along with your scandisk and defrag.

if that doesnt seem to be the issue, run the diagnostics available from the hard drive manufacturer.

What OS are you running? You may need to manually enable DMA in the device manager. It sounds like that wouldn't be the full extent of your problems, but it would speed things up a bit.
