display settings wont work!

whenever i go to display then click the settings tab, my comp freezes. i have geforce mx420 gfx if that helps. any one know why or know how to fix it? please? thank you

This should probably be in the software section...
What version of Windows, directX and graphics card drivers?
When you update dX or gfx drivers they need to be of similar age. If they aren't they don't get along well.
