I have a compaq tablet running windows xp for tablet. The system will crash constantly with a blue screen which disappears so fast I can't read it. Luckily I have windows xp and look into event viewer. Upon boot up the system freezes at the windows xp screen causing me to shut down an power back up again. Finally when I get to the desktop windows sends an error report to microsoft. the error reports comes back and says "the system error was caused by a device driver unfortunately we can't determine where the device driver is causing the error" I looked into device manager and everything looks ok , no yellow exclamtion points,I have no third paty software or hardware installed.I have done a system restore twice. Still the same problems over and over again. The event viewer records the error and everytime the system crashes the event viewer has the same error. " Source= system error" Category 102 event 1003

I would format the hard driver and reinstall the XP.
As you know it is recommended to reinstal Windows OS after 2-4 years, some technical even recommend to reinstal Windows every year.
If after reinstalling XP you still get problems then you have harware problem, one of the devices attached causing problem, disconnect one at the time and check what happens.

You could also google typing those error codes on the search box and see if somebody had similar problem and what did he/she do.

You might have had virus like blaster worm. Today arrived Netsky X warning from Symantec Virus Allert, but I don't think it is that.

I run several computer with several WIndows Operation System installed and I have to re install the whole lot almost every 2 years.

Hope you find help or solution.

Hardware problem maybe, but they are all on board devices. I have done a sytem restore using the manufactures cd they sent me and still have the same problem. I didn't think of a virus cause I ran that system restore cd twice thinking it was formating. There is a windows diagnostic program that came with the tablet I ran that and no errors came back. What about overheating?
