U.S. Dismantles Internet Child Porn Enterprise

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I've been hearing about this constantly because it was based here in my home town. You can find the story here.

It's a sick and disgusting situation. They were bringing in about $1.5 million per month. It was shut down over a year ago and the married couple running it were sentenced to jail.

Now, the reason I posted this. They had over 200,000 subscribers. They went after the subscribers. They only found 100 subscribers in the U.S.??? WTF???

Asked why only 100 out of the approximately 250,000 subscribers had been arrested, officials said the vast majority of them were in foreign nations and beyond U.S. jurisdiction.

I don't know whether to feel good because there were so few Americans, or whether to feel pissed off because law enforcement seems to be ever more selective in their prosecutions.

Hmmmm... 100 of the 250,000 subscribers were Americans.

100 of the subscribers were arrested- the rest of them were not arrested because they were beyond U.S. jurisdiction.

By my math..100 out of 100 american subscribers were arrested. Thats 100%. Why on earth would you "feel pissed off because law enforcement seems to be ever more selective in their prosecutions."?

I know that if there were any Canadians in that list...with the close ties between our 2 Countries, and the ownership of such material being illegal...they would be looking at arrests also.

I found a nice essay on the topic, and the difficulties of policing the net. It is a little dated but I think it highlights current issues nicely. The sad fact is there are some Countries out there that such an act is not illegal. The good news though is that there is an increasing global relationship for policing the Internet. Lots of cooperation using many police branched across many nations. There is often massive international effort needed to bring down a single script kiddy or a virus maker.

Governance of Pornography

I've thought a little more about it. I guess I'm pissed because I don't believe a word they are saying. Either they are overblowing the numbers, or they are doing sloppy work. Do you really believe that there were only 100 Americans out of 200,000 subscribers? I'd have to call you gullible if you do.

I don't believe them either...must have found some pretty heavy
hitters on that list...are they gonna publish it?

they didnt say that only 100 were americans. they said they arrested 100 americans and that the vast majority werent americans. leaves quite a bit of room there.

but they dont arrest people in these cases unless they can prove thier case. if multiple people use a computer, then thats hard to do. so im sure a lot of people werent arrested because of that. a name and credit card mean nothing if you have people living together.

and its possible, but unlikely, that some of those people just stumbled accidentally on the site, then left rapidly.

but child porn is treated much more lightly in other parts of the world, so it would make sense that most of them arent americans.

but actually, kane, im guessing that the 100 were arrested from the mail investigation. more maybe forthcoming from just the site.

Ugh. Porn altogether is IMO low. Ultimately, it's a quick and easy way to attain self satisfaction, but lust corrupts the heart, which leads to the break up of marriages and relationships.

Ahwell, no worries Kane, death'll catch up the the other 249900 bastards, and we'll let God do the judging from there

yeah......ok.....

Anyways- I think porn, be it child or not, is not the big problem that some build it up to be (damn organized religions). When you look at the grand scheme of things, under the category of major problems- porn cant be found with a microscope. maybe child porn can be- that stuff is highly illegal

organized religion?

Posted by: AK47

to clarify- the term organized religion refers to mainstream religions like christianity, and all the rest.

lets leave it at that. no religion debate for the love of god! oops
