Xfjnn.exe?
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

What is this xfjnn.exe? I googled it but nothing came up. I've never seen this before in my process under task manager. I've also looked at this task manager progs
http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm
But nothing there either.
I fear it may be something bad because my computer is crashing lately, mostly during Broodwar and right now I'm about to search what the stop codes mean. Man I see that BSOD too much.
Posted by: redwench
if it doesnt show up on google, its probably a randomly generated name from a virus.

What should I do?
Btw, I'm thinking about getting a firewall and AV installed. What do you recommend?
Lastly, I may have copied the stop codes wrong [ Probably ] but nothing seems to come up with the stop codes I have. I guess I'll just wait till it occurs again.
Thanks for the help in advance.

I bet that your lack of virus protection (you said in another thread that you don't have it) has finally proven to be a bad idea. Go to a software store, get an antivirus program, keep it up-to-date and running at all times and we'll see if you continue to have these problems.
What STOP code(s) are you getting?

Yes, definitely get those things! Although I know that there are some people here who loathe it, I've always used Norton and I recommend it (Norton antivirus and firewall).
Having an antivirus program and a firewall is nice, but the real key to avoiding problems like this is watching what you download/copy from removable media. If this virus you've got isn't a worm that slipped in on an unsecured port, you got the virus from transferring something onto your hard drive and then running it. If you like to use Kazaa and whatnot, get rid of those programs and never use them again; that's where some of these nasties come from.

free AV: www.grisoft.com
free firewall: www.zonelabs.com
plus many others, of course.

Thanks so much for all the help.
I may not install firewall because of some of the things it doesn't allow me to do, like sending/receiving files from others.

Umm... if you're on broadband and you're not behind a NAT router (either a hardware router or a PC), you definitely need to have a firewall installed and enabled (don't use XP's firewall, a "real" software firewall is a better choice). I can send/receive files just fine with my firewall enabled... who told you that you couldn't? As long as the firewall is configured to allow a certain program access to the port(s) that it needs, you shouldn't have any problems.

Yes I am using cable internet and I'm behind a NAT router. At least I think so. I'm not really sure what you meant by NAT router. It's the Linksys 802.11G router, that hardware. Is that what you're talking about?
Posted by: NegotiatorSmith
Yes, your Linksys router is a NAT router. What that means is that it performs Network Address Translation (in this case IP masquerading), where all of the computers connected to the router are assigned a private, non-routable IP address that other computers on the Internet can't "see". The computers see the IP address assigned to you by your ISP, and the router assumes that IP address and all incoming traffic goes through it. If you're not forwarding any open ports to your computer in the router's settings, it's not absolutely necessary to have a software firewall installed.

apparently, he needs one however......

Do you have any other good AV's you'd recommend Redwench?
I'm having a few problems with Grisofts.
Thanks in advance.

theres a few out there, google your heart out. although i wonder what on earth youre doing to have problems with avg.
Posted by: Ack1027
Well, it keeps telling me that I have a certain trojan and to run AVG in order to clean it from my system.
The thing is I've run it three times and nothing is detected. Also I've tried finding the filename it gives me but as to my knowledge it doesn't exist.
Posted by: redwench
what is telling you you have a trojan? obviously not avg....
AV programs are not the best at detecting or removing trojans. run a dedicated trojan scan if you think you have one.
www.trojanscan.com

Uh actually it is AVG seeing as how the little notice box has ' AVG ' in the top bar and that this bar only appeared after I installed AVG.
Posted by: redwench
what function of avg is this notice coming from? and did you update the program before scanning?
Posted by: Ack1027
I deleted AVG and got something called A Squared instead. It seems better than AVG for me. Thanks for the help. Btw, I did update before I scanned.

you are aware that a2 is not an anti-virus program, although it does detect and remove trojans and worms?
Posted by: Ack1027
On their site it says specifically that they also scan and get rid of ' Worm-Viruses '
Is there some other type I'm missing out on?
Posted by: redwench
worms are not technically viruses, although they are called that at times.
Removes existing Malware on your PC
Protects against Trojan Horse attacks from the web
Protects against Worms (Worm-Viruses)
Protects against Dialers which change your dial-in number
Protects against Spyware which collects personal information
Secures the computer against harmful software
Gives you control over the procedures inside the PC
Is the perfect addition to your antivirus software
note that it does nothing against standard viruses, only items listed. its designed to complement (note the last point here) AV software. you will need to run another anti-virus program along with it.
