Nintendo's stuck in the past.

WTF! Nintendo's making a classic NES version of the gameboy advance sp. i mean its not bad at all. but thats not what's dumb. whats dumb is that theyre coming out with nes classic games on the sp. even supermario bros. and pac-man. each is $20. and theyre gonna start selling gameboy advance video which each cartridge will have 2 episodes of a cartoon show. also $20 each. What the hell happened to them? Did they hit their head or sumthin?
Posted by: SwizzleStick
I'll pick up the first Zelda NES title. That show idea sounds "interesting".

Its not so much that they are stuck in the past as the fact that many peole are still willing to go back and play the original NES games. heck even i could play Super Mario Bros again or Metroid or evn duck hunt . Plus there are many peole who missed out on the experience of playing the NES and this is their chance.

They're re-releasing games that are 1. costing them next to nothing, 2. approximately two decades old, and 3. still immensely popular and fun to play. Low costs on popular items = huge profit margins. Sounds like good business to me.

I wouldnt mind having a disc on GC that contained my favorite NES games. Perhaps Nintendo could do it right, instead of pulling a Sega.
Posted by: madman55
ok so maybe youre all right. but seriously though, $20 just for a classic NES game? and pac man's one of them. i mean you could buy the pacman collection game for $30, and it contains the original pac man. What they could have at least done is make two volumes of the nes games. each containing three or four nes game for $30.that i think would be a great deal.and plua. the mario bros. game. they alreadsy made that for gameboy color. you can still find that in stores.

ooh, contra and zelda and metroid and ninja gaiden and castlevania and tetris.
Holy Shit, i almost forgot BUBBLE BOBBLE!
Posted by: madman55
they really shouldve thought of putting it all together into a nintendo's greatest hits volums rather than each game separately.

I agree. It's a good concept, and hopefully the correct execution will happen. There were some good games for the NES, as well as the bad ones.
Dragon Warrior, anyone?
Posted by: RAcastClarke
By the way, I was referring to Dragon Warrior being a GOOD game.
Just don't want to be flamed over it.
Thanks.

I miss Double Dragon

Hey my Neo Geo Pocket Color replaced my GBA so it's possible.

I wish Sega was like Nintendo.....constantly profitting and exploiting their old blockbusters.....*sigh* I want a NiGHTS 2 ..

Seconded.
The PSP is going to be so fragile, removing disks will break it.
Posted by: SKYHN
What makes you say its fragile?
Posted by: Spider
Sony said it would be.
Posted by: madman55
well... why are they gonna sell it then?

Because it will generate money.
Posted by: Yumaddar
How does a fragile product generate money?
Posted by: Spider
Because everyone will buy it, because it's Sony.
And because of the graphical capabilities of it.
It's not a durable electronic, that you could give a child. Like the GBA for example. It's a toy for adults, who won't (or aren't expected to) treat it as roughly as a child or adolescent would.
Shit, I play baseball with my SP.
Which is how a portable should be, in my opinion.
Sony, however, disagrees.

Lets wait and see just how 'fragile' the DS is...
Posted by: Null Actor
The issue with the PSP isn't how fragile it is, but the price. The projected price of 300$USD will kill its chances in the marketplace.
Posted by: Tecil
Exactly, why would I pay $300 for a handheld when I get get one for 1/3rd the cost and a huge collection of games. Even if it is "next generation," graphics don't outweigh quality gameplay.
Posted by: Null Actor
And for 300$, why not get a full console? Then you get all the extra benefits of having something that costs that much.

Sega Saturn rocked. I loved that they converted the NiGHTS controller over for the Dreamcast design.

Where is this $300 pricetag for the PSP coming from? All Ive seen is $69.99.
Im interested in the DS after reading a bit of the rumors about it. Its sort of an all in one type thing, WiFi(with browser, email and IM), PDA functions, MP3 player(rumored to have a large flash drive built in, 2gb+), USB2, an optional 2mp camera attachment and various other things. Nintendo has been so tight liped about it though, I wonder if any of that stuff is true. Ive been wanting to get an Mp3 player for a long time, but Ive also wanted a handheld and the 2 of them together would be nice. The PSP was supposed to have some kind of flash drive in it with MP3 capabilities, but it seems that was scrapped to make a pure gaming handheld.
Long battery life is what i want to see. Years ago when I used my old school gameboy on a daily basis, I would play that thing a good 7 or 8 hours in a day and it would eat the batteries so fast, I had 4 sets of rechargeables. I know that the SP uses a Lithium Ion battery, but I never have tested one of those out well. I remember one time playing my gameboy, it had been on for like 12 hours straight, and the back was very hot. I set it down for a sec, face down, when all of a sudden the battery cover busted off, 2 of the batteries had exploded partially from heat.

$70 works for me but that sounds too good to be true for a brand new next generation gaming device from sony. It'll prolly drop that low though
Posted by: SKYHN
Oh I see where it came from, EGM. I dont see how it could sell at $300 if it just plays games. Thats way too expensive.
And what about the DS? 2 screens, more than just gaming. Thats gotta pack a pricetag a lot more than the GBA SP.
Posted by: madman55
by the way skyhn, the sp battery life is about 17 hours without the screen light on. with it on is about 10-12 hours i believe.
Posted by: SKYHN
Yeah, and then whats the full recharge time? And is the battery replaceable or is it like the early iPod's?
Posted by: madman55
i believe the recharge takes about 5-7 hours. and i do believe that the battery is replaceable since you can unscrew the screw holding the battery in. but i dont believe that nintendo commercially sells the battery separately in stores, but you could order a replacement battery.
Posted by: madman55
and skyhn, do you happen to know if the gameboy player for gamecube plays gba games with a better quality stereo sound than the gba sp does?
Posted by: SKYHN
I have no idea, Ive never owned a GBA or the GBA player for GC.
Posted by: madman55
oh ok. i just wzanted to know cause right now i have zelda for gba and i love the game. used to play it on snes all the time. and i wanted to play it with stereo sound or better. so i hope someone will answer that question. thanks for answering anyway.
Posted by: SKYHN
It should be in stereo, my original Gameboy had stereo sound.
Posted by: madman55
ok, thanks skyhn. now if you got a question let me know, ill answer.
