I just completely reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled Xp Pro. My problem is that I can't get on the internet with that machine. It's like my drivers didnt install or something? And when I go into device manager to reinstall the drivers it can't find the software. Any ideas on what I should do?

Well, all depends what kind of modem you have. Not all modems (analoque and ADSL) are recognized by Windows, therefore you must have a CD that came with the modem, it has the modem drivers.
You should have yellow sign next to a PCI device and if you insert the CD that you got with the modem you can install the required modem driver via update the driver, etc.... You should see the drivers been loaded after the search.
(N.B. Very rare the driver installation works just by running the driver CD alone).
Also if you disconnect the modem and start the PC and shut it down and the connect the modem back and start the PC the Windows OS should regognize the 'new' equipment and allow you to install the drivers from the modem CD.
IF you do not have the modem driver CD ask you friend colleague to download the driver from the manufacturer's website.
The drivers vary from 500k to 3Mb.
Hope this info helps you.

IF the drivers are for a specific devizes as display Cards the always visit the manufacturer's website dor the latest driver, the same applies with audio cards. Do remember to match the drivers with the equipment otherwise there will be big trouble.

What kind of Internet connection do you have?
If you're on a cable or DSL connection, are you using a USB modem that needs special drivers?
Also, if you're on broadband and you have a non-USB modem, do you have a direct connection to the modem or do you connect to a router or PC that is acting as a router?
If you have a direct connection, is your IP address static or dynamic (DHCP)?
If you have DSL and a direct connection, do you need to install and configure a PPPoE client to connect?
EDIT:
Modified my last question - if you have DSL and you're sharing the connection with a router or a PC acting as a router, it should be taking care of the PPPoE already.
