I have a microphone that plugs into the back of the tower and it doesn't work. What could be the problem?????

What do you mean by "it doesn't work", exactly?
My brother recently had a problem with using the microphone he plugged into his sound card, and it turns out that his Windows microphone-volume setting was too low. I don't know how it is in other version of Windows, but for XP, follow these steps:
a. Click Start, click Settings, click Control Panel
b. Double-click on Sounds and Audio Devices
c. Click the Audio tab, and then click the second Volume button
d. Adjust the Microphone volume setting there
