Street Racing...

I know we've all raced on the street sometime. Even me, the perfectionist at finding the speed limit. But, I will admit, I've raced a few times in the past. I figured, since we all love car threads, this would be a neat one to tell stories about your own experience of blasting your opponent, or even getting to eat thier dust. I'll tell a few of mine. Feel free to post your own!
First time I ever raced was to prove my findings right from the internet. That the 1988 Series Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale Brougham would beat most newer Mustang 3.8's out there. I had the right place, right time, and the right opponent. We talked about it before, and he would not admit that his mustang just wasn't that obnoxious for speed. Not that a 1988 Delta 88 is all that in the racing, but the horsepower to wieght ratio in coordination with the front wheel drive put it at a slight advantage over the mustang. I finally talked him into giving it a try, so I could truly know if the delta 88 could beat him in a straight stretch run. That afternoon we met on edingsons stretch (about 1/2 mile straight stretch) and made sure the cops weren't around to nab us. We stopped at a bridge, and lined up. No cars were coming, so we let them rip. His mustang let out a squeel, and all I heard was my motor winding and shifting. I beat him by about 2 seconds where we figured about a 1/4 mile was. He was rather ashamed. I was happy to know it myself.
Not very long after I got my new cutlass, my friend and me were driving home, and he had a 1985 Chevy Blazer 2 door with a 2.8V6. Not much of a race, but he got beside me and started to pull ahead at 45mph. We were talking on radio's and I just said, "See ya lata". I beat him with ease, it was the whole fun of the deal.
1998 escort LX vs 1986 Cutlass Supreme 4-door. HAHA, that was fun. Me and my friend again, just screwing around on the road. I decided, the cops weren't around, and it was the right time. I passed him at about 70mph, and the escort started it's shivering at speed. I wouldn't push it passed 80. His car did manage to catch me, but a car was in the other lane, so he couldn't pass me. I won by default I know that 305 in the cutlass could probably squish the 2.0, but still it was fun.
And of course, the other night with the irritating purple cavalier RS. It was an RS version, which I happened to see the same car today. It has a 6 cylinder, not sure which. He pulled up beside me on edingsons stretch and started that slow, fast, slow, fast bull. My GF said just to slow down but I refused to offset my cruise control. I waited until he slowed down, hammered it. He didn't manage to keep up too well. It was rather ego building for the fact. I belive it's around a 1992 Cavalier. Nice body style, 2 door. Ugly ass purple though. I'm sure he won't try that again.
Those are the best stories in my lineup currently. I'll have to post back with some of my offroad racing stories. Now those are fun as all hell!

Uhhh, Most I don't really remember, not that there were a whole lot of occassions... seeing how i drove a civic and didn't care to get a racing ticket.
The first race I remember in the civic was at a light against a CRX. I had him by half a car then he missed his shift into 2nd hahaha.
hrmmm...
raced a ranger in the Accord... he thought his badass was going up against a weak family sedan... family sedan it may be.. but packing 240hp.. put him in his place to say the least
OH YEAH!
I raced a 386FWHP Integra with my civic! He had a built B18C1(1.8l GS-R motor same as in my new car) and was running maaad boost. Was from a roll on I-75 down near atlanta... I had him by a few car lengths before we quit it. No i'm not lying.. he spun his tires and couldn't get any traction... even when already doing 70mph lol.

oh yeah, i'm sure i'll have a few more stories with the new car, i'll let ya know

Hi, Reading your stories Aod just gave me a trip down memory lane. I used to street race every weekend with my 85 Stang GT. I bought it from my brother who had brought it up from Texas to sell. It was all stock. When I started racing the only things I did to it were 3.45 rear gears, hurst shifter, removed the sway bar, and a AC eliminator with short belt. With that combo I raced a 92 Firebird Firehawk (a race that I will never forget)! This was gonna be easy for him or so he thought. We pulled to the flagger, short pause.... Then bang through the gears. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, brake... I blew him away by a half a car length!! I couldn't believe my eyes! We then turned around and headed back we pulled up and we got out and I said nice race. He turned around and walked away from everyone mad as hell. This was the best feeling I ever had. To beat a car that should have beat me by a full car length. I also raced a 87-89 model that was setup the same as mine except he had 4.10 rear gears as opposed to my 3.45's. He asked if I wanted to race him I said sure. He should have won but I beat him by about a quarter to a half a car length too! I won almost every race with that car until I put a quicker motor in it. I tried to put a gear drive in it and it required a drill and tap in the block. To make a long story short some of the shavings got in the pan and spun a rod! When we put it together (before spinning the bearing) we also broke an ear off the water port and it was unfixable. So I found a guy about a mile away from me who had a 91 notchback 5.0 that he wrapped around a tree. I took it for $600 and out came the motor. when all was said and done I had a stock '91 302 with stock heads milled .030, a weiand action plus dual plane intake, 650 holley double pumper, holley blue electric fuel pump, MSD billet distributer, MSD 6AL spark box, and MSD wires. That combo made that car scream, but all the guys that wanted to race me had way more done than that. I was running the factory cam, short block, and basically heads. These guys had aluminum heads, big cams, and nitrous. I couldn't win against that. Well that car is long gone now and I have been kicking myself ever since I sold it.
I now have a 66 Ford Ranchero that also came from Texas via my brother and me. I drove down with him and we drove the Ranchero back. We blew the motor on the way though. Thats a long story that maybe I will post sometime.

hehehe more 5.0 insanity hehehe
from what i've heard replacing the cam on those can get you some big gains.

I already got a ticket once for doing 75 in a 35 street... unless I move to the Bay Area, my area is not the most conducive place for street racing

ouch laggy.. in the celica? and I thought they impounded for double the limit or over?
Posted by: Bix VT
I know here in VA anything more than 20 over is reckless...and they impound and arrest for "driving with the intent to kill" at double the limit.
haha, I remember one time this hot shot 16 y/o in a Toyota Sienna (yes, the minivan) pulled up to me, dropped it into neutral and revved his engine. I was in my little 124hp SC2. He got destroyed. Like 2 car lengths before I hat hit 2nd. He was just sitting back there spinning his tires...while I got rubber into 2nd.
Another time, I was driving along when another SC2 with aftermarket wheels and flames on the side of the car (get real, it's a saturn) pulled up next to me. His gf was in the passenger's seat. We found a light and raced to around 100. Beat him by about 1.5 car lengths. Next light we hit he asked me "Dude, what mods you got under there? I have $800 under my hood and you just destroyed me." I was running 100% stock. We both had sticks. There can be two conclusions: 1, he couldn't shift to save his life. 2, his gf's weight made the differernce. I wish I could find this guy again and race him without his gf in the car...
Oh yeah, I raced a C4 'vette convert once. He destroyed me. It was still fun as anything though. Nothing gets a grin on my face like racing...
Posted by: Gerbilo
Bix, in addition to his GF the aftermarket wheels... more than likely they were heavier than stockies unless he wasn't a complete dumbass... but it sounds like he was by the sound of flames... not only are most aftermarket wheels extra weight, they are directly involved with the drivetrain... the worst place to add weight... extra rotational mass kills accel. I've heard of ppl in civics running on 17"s and then switching to stockies(both with tires that can grip mind you) and running like a second or so quicker in the 1/4.
and $800 on an SC2... hrmm... it could buy you 5hp(say.... intake exhaust) or it could buy you 75hp lol(nitrous) guy sounded like a jackass to me...

Dunno ... it was past midnight with very few cars out, and I just came out of the freeway and didn't notice I forgot to slow down I just had the bad luck of passing a 7/11 with a cop car on its way out, I guess, lol ...
Posted by: Superfly3176
Some girl thought she was gonna pass me in an eclipse the other night. I was with my girlfriend and i even asked her if i should waste this car. She says to me okay. I took off i was at least a car ahead of it than i eventually hit a red light at walmart and she pulled up beside me kind of astoinished look on her face and i took off again when it turned green.

hahaha...ah yes, the look of astonishment. It's the best when it comes from me driving my mom's V6 stick Camry and blowing the crap out of any and all civics I see. Wow that thing is nice...it'll smoke the tires to the top of 2nd gear. Wearing 205s.
Posted by: Gerbilo
Hey superfly, what again do you drive?
and yea bix, I used to do that w/ my mom's car when ever i had to drive it hehe

"Had" is right. I prefer my SC2. The Camry can't handle corners worth crap and the road feel is horrible as well...but it sure goes in a straight line. First car I ever went 100 in...
Posted by: Gerbilo
Yeah, I like taking the Camry out once in a while. I like driving all the cars around here just to keep the feel of them and know what's going on about them.
yeah... got the camry up to 120 last year... not very safe i must admit lol
Posted by: Bix VT
You have a Camry as well? Year/engine/tranny?
Posted by: Gerbilo
95 V6 Automatic
so damn smooth lol
Posted by: Bix VT
ahh...99 V6 with a stick here. You can get it to shift smooth but it's kind of hard...the clutch is rather abrupt.
Wow I feel like puking all of a sudden...odd.
Posted by: Gerbilo
yeah, the automatic is just butter haha, not setup for power, but it's a camry...
puking? fun
Posted by: Bix VT
...wow. My family has never owned an automatic car...
The urge is subsiding now...quite random, I usually feel great when I talk about cars.
Posted by: Gerbilo
yeah, my family is all about automatics, which i guess is good for the way they drive and what they drive.
stick in the GS-R though, which is good, it'll keep my sister from stealin the car. she used to do it all the time with my civic....
Posted by: Superfly3176
A 2000 chevy malibu V6 170hp 190lb/ft i believe.
Posted by: Bix VT
Grr I would kill my sister if she "borrowed" my car...
Posted by: The-AoD
lol, Thank god I only have a half brother.
And super, is it the LS model? I like the LS a shitload better than the stock models. Starts reminding me more of my Cutlass
YAY CAR THREADS!
Posted by: Superfly3176
No its regular. What year is your cutlass. I just like the way it steers and its power.
I decided that a 440 charger wasn't economical especially the daytona at 7.2 litre. Still want one though.

Ok, 15 minutes ago (just got home) I was driving down VA route 123 behind a white 97ish Maxima. The light ahead of us turns red, and he zips moves over into the other lane. I don't assume anything (it was a Maxima, and my sis was in the car with me) so I simply start off from the light in my normal manor, which granted, is faster than most people. However, I do shift at 3k...so anyway I had just shifted into 2nd and I'm at 2k when suddenly his car gets real loud...like it turned into a ricer civic. Naturally, my basic instinct is to floor it...I didn't even downshift and by the top of 2nd his front end is at my rear bumper. I dusted him by one full car length on the way to the next light (maybe got to 60 in a 40). There's traffic at the next light, so I weave my way through until I'm out of it, but he gets stuffed. People eventually move out of his way, and by this time I'm only going about 50, but he doesn't seem to want to catch up...and eventually he turns.
Latest racing story...not extreme but still fun
Posted by: The-AoD
Mine's a 98 Cutlass GLS. Nice car, handles quite well for being a passenger sedan
And lol Bix. Sounds fun
Posted by: Gerbilo
Haha, yeah... there is too much traffic to race, I don't feel like getting busted for anything...
Did do some stupid shit and ran against my friends Grand Cherokee last night though. I didn't launch and had him by 2 cars by the time i shifted into 2nd... cut it there
Posted by: armystud0911
My first and only racing experiance came when my best friend told me that his buddy had a fast car, faster than the intrepid that I usually drove. I knew he was driving his mom's car so I thought "yeah right, prolly an olds". I met him and he very tountingly stated that it was a taurus SHO, ouch, those have V8s! However, he didn't seem to have much more than a big head so I challenged him to a race. We didn't do it out on public roads but instead did it on an abandoned parking lot about 1/4 mile long. Well, the big moment arrived as he pulled up revving all 8 cylinders. Another friend called the start and on "GO" my tires went up in a blaze of smoking fury, he beat me off the start but that was just cuz he didn't squeal his tires. I caught him at 30 miles an hour and we stayed head to head till we reached 70 when I started to break away. When I got to 90Mph, the end of the lot was approaching fast so I slammed on the breaks, I beat him by half a car a length. Not a lot, but in the words of Vin Diesel "It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winning's winning." That was good enough for me.
Posted by: Gerbilo
hahaha, SHOs are such heaps of junk nice kill.
Posted by: SpecOpsHoov
I've got nothing to race with. =/
Although every once in a while I'll mess around with someone in my dad's S-10. It's got a 4.3L V6 - 200hp. Gets pretty good pickup.
Now I just need to get me an S-10 Xtreme. Love those trucks. Either that or buy a reasonable S-10 and basically turn it into an Xtreme.
Posted by: Gerbilo
Make your own extreme! They are nothing but a body kit hehe
I'm not really into truck tuning other than for off-road purposes, but this one caught my eye, and definitely not with it's looks lol.

wait a second.. thats not a 4.3l V6... mmmm LS1 haha
Posted by: SpecOpsHoov
It's more than just a body kit. =/
You forgot the racing stripes.
Hehe, but seriously, that truck has an ugly kit on it, as do most cars with body kits as well. But I dunno, I've always been drawn to [certain] trucks.
I'm just tired of seeing (and hearing) 60+ mph lawnmowers.

nice... kinda of... hehe
Well, more comparative driving tonite.
Goin against my friends 66 Mustang w/ moderate tuning done. He pulled on me low end but top end we were around even. We left work and were just goofin around then all of a sudden we were doin 100+ down random streets. We didn't even realize, it was nuts though. We went from a light around this completely rice mobile, I was at full rev and my friend in his stang(loud as hell) was at full rev, the guy had no clue what was goin on, he tried to keep up but got lost. We were going light to light and from a kick for about 10 miles or so... crazy shit.
It was really stupid, but fun so, whatever. A cop spotted us so we bailed off onto a side street and took off.
Posted by: Bix VT
That happend to me the other day too! Doing about 15 over and a cop comes up behind me...he looks like he's going to pull me over (he really shot out from his camping spot) so I flip a quick u-turn and speed on past him goin the other way. I see him turning around too, so I zip into the local high school...which was conveniently placed RIGHT THERE, parked, sat there until I saw him enter the lot, then zipped right back out...hahaha wow that was fun.
Gerb, was your friends stang a 289? Because I'll bet you'd have killed it if it were a V6...

Bugatti made the decision to blow the doors off the supercar world by creating a 1,000-horsepower engine.

Uh, I don't see the term BHP anywhere....
Posted by: Bix VT
Trust me, I read up quite a bit on this when it first came out. Reference: www.CarAndDriver.com
Posted by: armystud0911
He's right, I've read on almost a dozen magazenes and webpages that the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 produces 1001 HP and 989 lb/ft of torque, but those were all euro based, car and driver rules for US!
Posted by: Bix VT
Amen! I get both Car and Driver and Road and Track, and C&D rules! They use humor and wit whereas R&T just reports on the cars...I'll subscribe for life!
Posted by: Gerbilo
Yeah Bix, it's a 289 body, but supposedly stroked/bored as well as a few other things the previous owner did.
Posted by: Bix VT
Cool...haha I feel sorry for that Solara.
Posted by: Gerbilo
yeah, he really had no clue wtf was goin on lol
Posted by: Bix VT
I wish he had been me I would love to have seen that...

A GS-R and a 66 Stang going flying by at full throttle? lol... prolly scared the hell outta him

well i have a friend whos dad does something like buy cars then sells them himself or soething like that. well he gets all these bad ass cars and me and my friend take them out for the weekend. one time it was a 2004 mustang convertible that was fun didnt really go out of my way to race but did a little fun freeway racing. then once was a 2003 mitsubishi eclipse spider. that was really fun because it had a radar detector and scrambler in it so i could go as fast as i wanted. that i went out of my way and went to the races and had lotsa fun. then one other time was a brandnew mercedes. didnt race that i was kinda careeful with that one.
