DSL Companies Dropping Fast

Rhythms NetConnections announced Friday of it's plans to stop service, after filing for bankruptcy on August 2nd. Rhythms is based in Colorado, and has notified it's users of service termination in 31 days. The company has also laid off 75% of it's work force, totaling 700 employees.
NorthPoint Communications closed it's doors in May, selling it's assets to AT&T for $135 Million. And if that wasn't bad enough, Covad Communications has also filed for bankruptcy to eliminate a debt of $1.4 Billion.
Equipment and labor costs are pressuring the telecommunications market, and rates already soaring...there's not much more they can do except to drop into debt being forced to file for bankruptcy. Hopefully the remaining companies can pull out of the hole and compensate for the lows, but it's not looking good.

Oh goody. That means higher cable bills for cable users.
DSL is just too expensive in the states. It's like 70$ here compared to 42$ for cable. 32$ if you own your modem.

It's times like these when I love being Canadian.
When 1.5mbit DSL in small town Northern Alberta can be had for about $23 USD a month.

Oh common now!
I'm in Edmonton, Alberta, and let me tell you, ADSL with Telus SUCKSSSSS!
I get 80Kb/sec.
Switched to Cable...500kb/sec
I hope Telus folds.
They are hopeless when it comes to technical extpertise and customer service.
Ever since they became BC Tel, its been all down hill.
Bit off more then they can chew.
Listen to their phone messages.
If its not, "Due to high call volume..."
its
"Your call can not be completed at this time..."
What a joke.
They don't know how to manage DSL.
