Nova'll probably get mad just by looking at the subject line... but I hope he'll change his mind about locking this thread after reading this.
Well, my conscience has been gnawing away since I found that the owner of the Palm has himself in his Address Book... and he also happens to live in CA and has a 415 area code phone number.
I tell myself that if I ever lost anything and someone else found it, I would not hold it against them if they kept it. I shouldn't have lost it in the first place.
But I know that just because I wouldn't mind others keeping them does not justify me keeping this. Especially when I now know who this Palm belongs to and how to contact him.
Then I read Nova's post, which pretty much put it in the right perspective for me I guess (thanks by the way)... Well tomorrow morning I'm gonna call that guy's cell # and make arrangements to return the device.
As to the cradle charger, I'll put it back in the box and give it to my uncle since he also has a Palm Vx and asked me to buy an extra one. The extra, unopened one that was originally meant for my uncle will go back to Office Depot I guess... still have the receipt.
I have this fear that the owner of the Palm is some rich snob (it was found in the First Class area) who doesn't really care much for it- who will be ungrateful that I took the time and trouble to return the Palm to him. But I guess even if this were so, I still have the obligation to return it to him, because that would be his problem and not mine.
Ah well, it was nice to think I had my own Palm for a few days. And for free too.
Jimney Cricket sucks.

Good choice. You will be able to sleep better at night...now I did not mention if previously for I thought that somebody checked the owner ID tag in the Palm, however...why did nobody check that at the airport?
by the way, I don't understand this fear that the owner is a rich snob? I just don't get it. Does that make it less important to return property...that the guy may have more money then you? Don't get ticked off...I am just trying to understand your sentiments.
Oh...get yourself a Palm IIIe. They are going cheap right now and you can find some for really good prices because Palm is not making them anymore, and they are trying to liquidate old stock.

um, chako......
the aunt is lifting them from the plane, and bypassing lost and found altogether. as in a crime. i know uh...ok seems to think this is all right, as well as the rest of his family. which i think is odd with an asian heritage, but oh well.
uh...ok, dont ever accept that stuff from her again. its called recieving stolen property. we arent talking a magazine or pack of cigarettes, were talking valuable items. she should be turning them in to lost and found.
if you dont think people file claim slips for palms and gameboys, you are quite mistaken. and unless you want your aunt charged, dont tell the man how you got it. say you found it in a garbage can or something.

Chako- to explain, the fear is a bit selfish. I just mean that I fear he'll be some ungrateful rich dude who doesn't really care whether he's lost it or not, and wasn't going to pursue it anyway (or may have already bought another one). I guess "ingratitude" would be the main thing here. And yes, you're right... it has nothing to do with my obligation to return it to him (as I said in my post earlier). However he reacts should have no effect on my responsibility to bring it back to him
redwench- it is not Asian heritage. A good ol' phrase... "Everyone does it," no matter what culture they are from... once they've worked there long enough, they know how the company ticks. Once again, I'll have to stress that I have quite a few family members who've been working there for a long time and KNOW how the place works. Although TECHNICALLY they are not supposed to lift things off the airplane and not bring them to the lost and found, in reality, the company simply does not care. You don't need to argue with me on this point because you don't work for the company so you would have no clue (no offense, just merely stating fact). And another thing- guess what the company DOES do to stuff in the lost and found? They pawn 'em away.
Anyway this does not matter. Call it God's will that this Palm happens to fall into my hands- so that I can return it to the rightful owner.
BTW, I tried calling the guy's work and his cellphone this morning. I think the cell # is obsolete and no one responded to the work #. Guess I'll have to try again later.

BTW I just plan to say that a relative of mine found it in the airport a couple of weeks ago and gave it to me a few days ago... I managed to charge the battery and check the phone # of that person.
If he asks for details I'll just say that I don't know.

im sure you are right uhok. the company probably doesnt care much. but do you remember what happened to those baggage handlers who thought the same thing about 5 years ago? state and federal charges up the wazoo. they were caught on hidden security cameras after a number of complaints of missing items.
and the reason for the lost and found is for liability purposes. all companies sell that stuff after 3 or 6 months, not just airlines. but it avoids accusations of theft. and as i said, they do investigate these things, so as to avoid liability. even if they dont really care.

I can't picture the guy not being grateful. A lot of people have Palms, and you don't have to be rich to have one. For most people, the cost of replacing it would be a pain in the ass.

you know i could be wrong but hehe as long as they are on the same topic we could probably eave them in the same topic ya think? i mean they both talk about the same thing its all based on the same thing. but i guess thats my opinion =) i think this is a wasted topic
