The problem I am experiencing with my computer is that whenever I start a movie file the system freezes up. I am using WinXP Pro currently.
I was watching a dvd last night and the lights just went off for a couple of minutes and came back on. When I tried again to play the dvd the system froze win Win media player. I tried a couple of movies that I had in my computer .avi and .mpg files but it still freezes. The strange thing is that I have quicktime and when I try to open a movie there it freezes too. It is possible to play mp3 on the computer on media player and that was surprising.
Any idea, help, comment is apreciated.

Are all the movies from the same country, i.e. some DVD movies are country (region) coded. The 'country code' on DVD palyers can changed 5 times only. Wrong setting (configuration and 'country code') will stop playing, also DVD -r is not DVD +r, VideoCD-r is not VideoCD -r, etc...
You mighthave downloaded something else with a movie, check for any Virus and especially any Trojans and Spy Programs and Trailers.
Windows Media Player 9, but it does demand a lot from the PC, also make sure that the Quicktime is not automatoically trying to play the same movie simultaneously with another player utility.
