Shared Internet Connection Blues...

I am running windows XP. I own a Linksys BEFSR41 V.2 router with the latest firmware. I am using the router as a hub, and so far file and print sharing work flawlessly, and I can detect all the other computers on our network via our workgroup in our Microsoft Windows Network. I have a working internet connection on my computer, and I have two computers hooked up to our network. But unfortunately they can't connect to the net through my computer! The reason I am not using the router to split the conenction is because it is dialup. I know at one time I was able to browse the net on the other computers through mine, but I had to reload windows and reset the network. But it wont work anymore! And when I ran the network setup wizard on all computers (mine first as the internet host) to set up the network, and I try to share my internet connection, an odd thing happens. When it's done, I get a "phantom" internet gateway popping up in my network connections, and I suspect that the other computers are using this "phantom internet gateway" as instead of using my dialup connection. Why does this "gateway" popup when I share my internet connection, what does it do, and do I need to disable it to get our internet working on the other computors? (If not how else do I fix it?)
I would be happy to provide even more information if you want it; I wasn'tsure what kind of extra info might help.

Visit the router manufacturers homepage, support, also recommend to google search the problem.
Some ideas for the settings with LAN; well as an excample.
Normally, the Master computer has to be connected to internet before any client can be.
1) Make sure that the Internet Sharing is installed.
2) Properties setting of the TCP/IP Ethernet card are:
IP Address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
WINS: Disabled
Gateway: Empty
DNS: Disabled
Bindings: Both selected
3) On the Client (Slave), Properties of the TCP/IP Ethernet card are:
IP Address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS: As given by your ISP, without them the Client PC can not
connect to the Internet.
Just as reminder, google search aslo the subject, you will find lots of help (even with pictures).

My router/hub automaticalls assigns IP's to the computers; it has DHCP. I have all the internet connection sharing features enabled. I am not computer illiterate so don't attribute my problems to enabling internet conection sharing please. I was just wondering if there are any advanced settings or overrides that might work; our household has a history of computer problems that I have had to use strange ways to fix. An example of this would be the very network. It sees two of three computers, but not the third. Yet the third computer is still able to share files on the network, use our printers, and use Vypress chat. Just another wierd quirk of Windows I guess...

I don't have a solution for you, but I noticed that you said this:

If you're trying to make it so the router simply acts as a hub and you want your computer to be the "host" computer on your network using Internet connection-sharing software, why do you have the router configured that way? Shouldn't the host computer be assigning IP addresses to the client computers as well as performing all of the other connection-sharing functions that the router normally performs?
Have you tried simply setting the gateway on the client computers so that it's the IP address of the host computer? If those computers are configured for DHCP and your router is configured for DHCP, it sounds like the computers are using the router's IP address as their default gateway instead of the host computer's IP address (when ICS is set up on the host computer).

Hey thanks i'll have to try that. What you said actually makes sense; I can't believe I didn't think of that. Anyhow, thankz!
