I get the message "tcp/ip is not installed" when I log in to my machine. I have an Alienware laptop with a RealTech NIC. I have updated the drivers, and run the commnad (netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt), removed and reinstalled my adapters, etc. I can see that I have a connection and can even ping things, I do not have the ability to map a network drive or connect to anything via the internet. Does anyone have any ideas for me?

In Network connections, right click on your connection and click on properties. See if "Internet Protocol (TC/IP)" is checked. If not, put a check mark beside it. If it is not there, click on install, then on protocol in the box that pops up. Click add. Then on the next box that pops up choose "Microsoft TC/IP" and click ok. You may have to have your XP disk to install it. Hope this helps.

TCP/IP is checked. I can not remove it and reinstall because, per Microsoft, "TCP/IP is an integrated component and cannot be uninstalled. Instead try using the Network Shell to reinialize TCP/IP. This will bring you back to a pristine state." That is where I got the commnad : netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt.
