multiple error reports using win xp

When I log onto the internet, try to load software, try to use system restore or virtually any other function I can think of; I keep getting error reports prompting me to report my problem to microsoft. In addition system restore fails and my software won't load. If I had to guess I'd say I had a virus but I can't load viral software to find out. Please help

The only things I can think of that you could do would be a repair installation and if that fails....time to reformat.
