Seagate covering

i was wondering if it was ok to take off the covering that the seagates have because i have this dual-fan on it and the temp of that hard drive tends to be 5°C more than my other hard drive which is a Maxtor 120GB hdd. I would do it but im not sure if the hdd being bare would damage it or not...

From my experience, Seagate drives just typically run a little hotter than others, but it doesn't affect performance. It really shouldn't be a concern unless you start to see failures from the drive.

do NOT remove the exterior housing of your hard drive unless you plan to use it as a shiny work of art. the housing keeps dirt and debris off the platters.

From the pic he posted, I don't think he talking about removing the actual housing of the drive, but whatever that black covering is in the picture.
