Cd Burner Burning up!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

What a lousy burner, I need your help here everyone.

I have a Mitsumi CR-2801TE burner...really old...8x2 speed. Terrible reliability, but it's been doing odd stuff lately..very odd..

I decided to make some music CD's today, as I was in the mood to burn stuff. Anyway, it took forever to burn (I have a ..ahem..mostly legal copy of Nero 5 express). It finished, and said the burn was successful, etc etc. However, when I exited, the little red light on the drive was still on, and would NOT turn off. The CD tray would'nt open as well. Manually, or from the command menu thingy. I had to restart the computer to finally get the CD out. Oddly enough, the computer never detected a single file on the CD, but the CD worked just fine. That's a good thing. So when, trying to do it again, albeit with different music tracks, it glitched all over the place.

Gave me an error log, and Nero gave me the following informational message:

"Program error."

Then it closes. Managed to grab an error log too. That red light came on again too, and wouldn't turn off. Eventually I had to reset again.

Ugh, why is this happening, and is there anything I can do to prevent it?

Thanks.

It'll be nice when I can make some sense of those log texts, I need to teach computers english

This may not be the answer you wanted... but I would just get a new burner. I just bought a 52x cd burner at Best Buy, cost me $19 after the mail in rebates. Came w/ a legal copy of Nero Express too!

I agree with ZLRAC, why try to use such old device, same CD burner lasted only 2 years with me. The new ones are so cheep, why not even buy DVD-/+ RW burner.

I'm gonna get a LiteOn 52x32x52 burner for 34 bucks at newegg.

Figured it was a good deal, and it'll do me a hell of a lot better than what I got now.
