I can't host any warcraft 3 games
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

So yeah, I can't host any WarCraft III games.. I don't know why. Here is what I have
Netgear Wireless Router
Earthlink External DSL Modem
3 Computers
Firewall disabled
Norton Antivirus on 1 of the computers
Internet Explorer 6.0 ( I think )
Windows XP on all 3 computers
I was reading some of the posts and saw that you should type in your default IP adress and insert the port 6112 from there HOWEVER it asks for a password and admin name. I saw a post that said the default is no name and password is admin. I tried that and it didn't work. I am the admin of the house for all computers so I use my log-on and password and it said 401 unauthorized. So much for that idea... can anyone help me out here? Is there another way to get my TCP/IP to allow port 6112?

To host, you'll need to go into your router's settings and forward port 6112 TCP to your computer, yes. I believe that the default username for a Netgear router is admin and the default password is the word password. If you need help configuring your router for hosting, post back. Note that the instructions you looked at where it said that the username was blank and the password was admin are for Linksys routers, not Netgear routers.

it worked, I got into the settings. I checked on Port Fowarding and it gives me these options:
Service Name
Srarting Port
Ending Port
Server IP Address
I put 6112 for start and end
I put 192.168.0. _____ for the IP Address
And the service name I named Warcraft 3
It still wont let me host a game... could this be due to any other computers on the network?
Thanks for the reply

No, your hosting problem has nothing to do with the other computers on your network.
What did you put for the last number of the IP address?
Posted by: Smals
192.168.0.2 is what I put.
It told me that was my IP... is there a bigger number? Is that the wrong number?
IP Address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
after putting in ipconfig
Is there anything else I would need to do? In the router config? Might it have something to do with internet setup or network configuration?

Blizzard games aren't limited to one port. Try forwarding ports 6112 though 6118 and 4000, this will cover all of blizzards games minus World of Warcraft, which has its own set of ports.

If ipconfig or your network connection properties told you that 2 is the last number, then it's the correct number. I just wanted to make sure that you put in the correct number, as I have seen people put their router's IP address in for the IP address many times.
The only other thing you need to do is disable your router's DMZ setting if an IP address has been placed in it, and if your router supports port triggering, you need to clear port 6112 from its settings as well.
To find out if another firewall is causing the problem, simply bypass your router entirely and try hosting a game.
Does your DSL modem double as a router? If it does and if it's not in bridge mode, you'll need to forward port 6112 TCP to your router in the modem/router's settings. Many DSL modems act as routers right out of the box.
Warcraft III only listens for incoming connections on the port you specify in its Game Options; it does not listen on any other ports. The Blizzard site says to forward ports 6113-6119, but I believe they tell you to do that if you want to use port triggering and you have multiple computers that want to host on your network. Warcraft III does not use port 4000, Diablo II does. Forwarding port 6112 TCP (the default port that Warcraft III uses) is enough for Warcraft III, and if you want to host Diablo II Open and TCP/IP games, you need to forward port 4000 TCP. If you want to host Starcraft, Diablo and Warcraft II: BNE games, you only need to forward port 6112 UDP.

Wow ok, how do I disable DMZ settings? I don't think it acts as a router though. It has one ethernet port in the back. I use my netgear for the router/hub. How do I clear 6112 from it's settings? I'm not hosting anythign other than warcraft 3 as well, to make it known. How do I bypass my router? Wow, you have so many options!!! Thank you very much for helping me as well. If you could please explain how I can do these proccesses it would be most appreciated Thanks again

maybe you have a firewall on (software one)........

i dont have the windows xp firewall turned on for this computer, not sure about one of the other computers and the 3rd computer's firewall is broken and says i cannot access it because of an error. I know I havn't DLed any firewalls via internet or external programs. I DO however have Ad Aware but I don't think that would be a problem. I have no antivirus on this computer either.

Well, if you tell me what model Netgear router you have, I could look that up for you.

Again, I'd have to know what model Netgear router you have to see if it supports port triggering.

You would plug your computer's ethernet cable directly into the ethernet jack on the back of your modem.

Is that the computer you're hosting custom games on? If it is, the firewall might be blocking the port. See if you can get it uninstalled. If you can't, post any error messages you get.

Nope, it wouldn't be a problem.

The model for my router is
Netgear Wireless Router MR814v2
I could try bypassing it but the 2nd and 3rd computer are next to the modem. This computer (the one I'm hosting on) is in my room. Which is not near the modem. But I think I'll try that on my 3rd computer because none of them can host.
The 3rd computer isn't the one hosting either. So if it wouldn't matter about the firewall thingy on a client computer then yeah, it's not the one I'm using to host. Sorry for not mentioning that earlier. I will however try to fix it and again, use the 3rd one to do the bypass thing with.
If you have any further help, I'de appreciate it!

Your router's DMZ setting is called the "default DMZ server" and is located in the WAN Setup menu.
As far as I can tell your router does not support port triggering...
When you plug that one computer directly into your modem, check ipconfig to see what IP address the computer has been assigned. If it falls in one of these ranges...
10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255
...then your DSL modem is acting as a router, or your ISP has you behind one (well, a router that serves the same purpose that your Netgear does). If the IP address falls in one of those ranges, type the default gateway address that appears in ipconfig into your web browser's address bar and see what comes up.

hi, i have a netgear wgr614 v4 router. i forwarded ports 6112 and hosting games worked ONE FULL day. after this period of time it never worked again. meanwhile i forwarded ports 6111-6119 (some buddy told me to) but nothing changed. i'm using kerio firewall but it accepts everything going in and out from warcraft iii / battle.net. so it MUST be a problem with my router.
i am now in the router settings menu -> advanced -> port forwarding:
service name: warcraft iii
starting port: 6111
ending port: 6119
server ip adress: 192.168.0.2 (checked ipconfig for it)
so what's missing or wrong? the dsl modem doesn't block or do anything like that. there's another computer connected to the netgear wgr614 v4 router (wireless lan) but i think that shouldn't be the problem.
negotiatorsmith could you help me please? as i read this thread i noticed you are very into this stuff. as i said, the router's name is netgear wgr614 v4. i forwarded the recommended port (6112) and it won't work. has it to do with dmz? i have no idea what this might be and what to do and how to do it. has it to do with tcp and udp? what is that? where can i change those settings? i couln't see any "tcp" or "udp" setting options in the router's menu
sorry for my bad englisch, i am from germany
