Upgrade question

I am about to upgrade from an Athlon 1.4, GigabyteGA-7ZX-H, GeForce2 MX400 & 512k PC-133 to the following: P4 2.8 Prescott 800 FSB, Gigabyte GA81PE1000 Pro 2, ATI Radeon 9600XT and 512 DDR400. I have 2 HDD 80G and 40G( the 40G is used for backup) I run WinXP. I know this is probably a silly question but is there anyway I can get around having to reformat the HDD and install everything again? I have an exact image of the 80G drive on the smaller one. Thanks in advance for any help. Cheers, Dean.

not really. a motherboard change pretty much requires a fresh installation if you want it to work correctly. you can attempt a repair installation if you would like to, but its unlikely it will completely work.

I may be really ignorent here but when dell came out and replaced my mobo and processors, I didn't have to format, is that just cuz I had the same model mobo?

yes

if you partition your hard drive into 2 pieces and put the data you want to keep on the scond partition, you only have to reformat the windows partition with programs and stuff.
