to be or not to be overclocked....???

I am using an intel P4 1700 Mhz (4.25 x 400 ).. MOBO : compaq EVO D300... Chipset : Intel Brookdale i845....Is overclocking possible?? If yes..
Please help me how to?

It may be overclockable, depending on the compaq bios. If you have no BIOS settings for overclocking, you might want to check the mobo for jumpers used for overclocking. If it doesn't have eithery, then all you have is stock speed.

WARNING!
Overclocking will damage your CPU sooner than you would like it to fail.
The 'normal' speed is tested to be the safest for each specific system by the manufacturer's test team any think else will be owner's own fault and no support rectifying arisen failure with the 'chipset', CPU and motherboard will be given.

you wont get much out of overclocking a 1700, its unlikely to be the cpu thats your bottleneck. you probably wont see a lot of performance increase for your risk, unless you have a lot of high speed ram.

ok.... thanks for making it clear Guys.. .....i will just enjoy whatever speed this rig can provide.....
