MAC Bios update

I am looking for help with an IMAC 233mhz. The machine was purchased from a business that went bankrupt. They formatted the hard drive to get rid of any company info. When I try to install OS 9 on it, it will boot to the CD and come up on it.

But when I try to install OS 9, it tells me that I have to update the Firmware. When I try to update the firmware, it tells me that it can't write to the current system control folder because "the volume is locked". When I try copying the System Control folder to the hard drive, it tells me that it can't be run that way.

How do I get around this problem and update the firmware so that I can install OS 9?
