Transparent LCD?
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I was reading a magazine at a friends house today(forget what it was called) and there was an article about 'transparent LCDs'. Not little car radio ones, but full screen, full color ones. Basically what they are is an LCD screen that is completely transparent. When an image is displayed on it, part of that image can be transparent and another screen can be put behind it, making the image 3D(with use of software and a special camera). They can be stacked almost an infinite number of times. The last LCD can either be transparent or solid to make the 'background'. They can also display images in perspective and real depth, like if you had a stack of screens and instead of being in front of them, you were under them, they would display the image as if you were really under it. That part though is still being worked on, it said it doesnt always work with every kind of image. There was only 1 pic but it did look very nice. Ive been trying to find info on them online, but no luck so far.
That would be a tremendous leap in displays for TV, PC and jsut about everything else related to displays. Instead of shops putting up posters or painting their windows, they can put these in them. Or imagine watching a movie on the big screen in full 3D.

I have heard about such screens before, I have also heard rumors that the next line of visual projection technology will be water related. I think it will be somewhat along the lines of having a mist sprayed up and the image projected on the mist from below, when you turn it off, it all disappears into the base. Keep in mind though, that this is still wayyyyy in the design fase and could change drastically before it reaches production, if it does at all.

Yes, impressive it is...
...but without wanting to put a damper, I'm curious to know how much all this technology will co$t - for if but a handful can afford it, the rest will only get a painful reminder of what the Torment of Tantalus really is

Oh of course its WAAAYYYYY out of our price range, they will prolly just have apps in the feild of medicine first. I don't think that they will be availible or around for a long time. Kinda like veiwsonic's ultra high res. lcd screen (3840x2400) it was released a while ago and it still costs $6,000 yet.

Let's hope so - for there at least it will benefit the people as a whole - provided it does not result in an increase in medical costs, of course
