Lag

Hi,
Since yesterday I have problems playing games on Battlenet.
Every 30 seconds or so my game freezes, and then I get a window telling me: "Waiting for host"
After about 10 seconds I then get a button "Disconnect".
Then after about 5-10 seconds I'm back at the game but in the 30 seconds that passed, the game went on ofcourse...
It's the first time I see this. I have been playing for about 1.5 years now.
I think this means I have a lag problem right?
I already asked at my provider if they're having network problems in my area but he says my line is ok and that there are no problems.
The game is unplayable now.
My connection is ADSL and it's very fast. I don't experience troubles in surfing or mailing and my ping times to different ip adresses that I tried (like google) are very good: +/- 40 ms.
I live in Belgium, Europe, near Gent. Anyone an idea if what could be the problem?
Thanks,
Skof

Yes, you're having a latency/packet loss problem.
If the problem does not occur in custom games, it lies with your ISP's connection to the Battle.net gateway you're playing on. Run a trace route to your gateway (i.e. europe.battle.net) by opening a command prompt window and typing this:
tracert europe.battle.net
If you're having this problem in custom games as well, then you've got a general connection problem; custom games are hosted by the person hosting the game and not Battle.net. You should run a trace route to your gateway anyway to find any potential problems.
Web surfing and e-mailing won't give you an indication of the quality of your connection, but playing other online games will. If you are connectivity problems with any other games, that probably means that you have a general connection problem and it isn't limited to Battle.net.
Another thing you should do is run an adware/spyware/virus scan and make sure that all programs that eat up connection bandwidth (especially file-sharing programs) are closed while you're playing online.

Thanks for your answer.
I did the traceroute and found no specific problem. I reach the europe.battle.net in 16 hops.
In the last line I see 56ms to get there. to bad I can't put the screenshot here.
I also pinged that adress and i get my 4 packages in an average time of 50 ms, which is also very good I think.
I'll try it a couple of times more to see if there's a difference sometimes.
I'll also do a virus check.
I have no programs in the background that eat bandwith.
Greetings,
Skof

So you didn't see any unusually high ping times or time-outs in your trace route results?
Yes, your ping time to europe.battle.net is very good.
I'm pretty sure that your problem is just a temporary connection problem and it will clear up on its own, assuming that nothing has changed on your end.

I hope you're right.
I did several tests now, most of them with very good results.
2 or 3 occasions I got 2 stars in the last line and a one value of about 55 ms.
Indeed, I dind't change anything here.
Will test with custom games also to see what happens.
