All I can say on the matter is this. The World Wildlife Fund are well within their rights to uphold their copyright. They have been using the WWF symbol for a longer period of time then the World Wrestling Federation. Trust me when I say that the World Wresting Federation would have done the same thing if the shoe was on the other foot. This has been in the courts for a long time. The first I heard of any legal ramblings between these two organizations was in the late 80s.

What blows my mind- why didnt the World Wrestling Federation just give the other WWF a ton of cash? The VInce Mcmahon and his wwf have billions of dollars, I bet they tried to settle and just pay the wwf for their name. whatever
this thread sucks just cause its too tough to write about 2 corporations with the same name.

And so it continues? What is "it"?
I live in an area with a longish river called the Indian River. Aptly named as a lot of Native Americans were around here. So of course, our school is the Indian River School District. And the atheletic teams were the Indian River Warriors, or just Warriors for short. The symbols included an Indian head in a war bonnet. They did a nice tile one on the pool wall.
Not any more.
As of this year, they can't be called the Warriors any more due to the reference to Native Americans. It is derogatory to use the term "Warrior" in naming sports groups. Like no other group in history was ever called warriors? Only Native Americans are called warriors. There were never any warriors ever before in history, the concept never entered anyone's mind until they hit the New World and ticked off the locals. After a major whomping was administered, they managed a confab between the two warring factions and the settlers asked the Indians, "Hey, what is this you are doing?" And the Indians said, "Well, (Indian word for Stupid White Man inserted here), when we make war, we become warriors. What do you call yourselves when you make war?" and not to be outdone, the (insert aforementioned derogatory White Man term here) speaker said, "Of course we call ourselves warriors too, we just wanted to see if you had a new way of saying it. And could you tone down that offensive comment?" Meanwhile, he later comments to his buddy, "Damn, that's a good term - let's use it!"
So, what shall the Indian River Warriors become? The dweebie-pre-college-group-trying-to-win-this-game? And what about the river? Do we have to rename that too? The Native American waterway, or is that still too derogatory?
Of course, another blow has been struck for mediocrity here in the good ol' USA. We can all rest better at night knowing that the natives can not possibly have the birthright of their warrior term usurped by the (insert term here for language stealing interlopers).
Is it a rant or a rave when you just love to run off at the mouth about the assinine?
Heck, there's a school in our county that has the Spartans. They aren't Greek. They have to buy special costumes for their parades to keep up with the name. Is that even in keeping with the true spirit of Spartanism? Bare necessities. Just barely. You may be arrested, but you'd have the best attended parades before they hauled the children off to juvenile court for indecent exposure...
So. Where were we... oh yeah, I think it's the spirit of the whole thing. I mean, name yourself after something with power, something with weight, with presence that is missed by no one. The Indian River Sumos! Yessssssssss! And seeing as how the girls teams were called Lady Warriors, it only follows that they become the Lady Sumos. The Native Americans can't object to that and the Japanese are another country entirely.
Oh wait - how about: The Panda People! That doesn't describe any group does it? I mean, is there any big huge international group that would have their feelings hurt if there came into existance the Native American Waterway School District Panda People?
I think I have this problem solved.
I'll start a business renaming all these things that can't be called something. And you really know what I mean if you understand that sentence.

This was created by a soft bunch of morons who are desperately trying to be "politically correct" (god I hate that term)
think about it. Why the **** would they want to be called Native Americans? First off, they werent native. There were people on North America before them. Secondly, why the hell would they want to have the dirty word of American in their title?! Our fine American ancestors are the ones who invaded their lands and killed 19 million of thier people. Yeah, I'm sure they love being associated with such stand-up individuals.
You know what Native Americans really want to be called? Hopi, Cherokee, shoshone, etc... These are their names. Why do we feel it ok to group all these very different and diverse people into one big, politically correct group? We call Itallians itallians (instead of just europeans) - the same is true with Germans. But no- Native Americans get the shaft. Always have and always will.

Native American is just a way to classify them all into one race. Which they are. Cherokee, Miami, etc are tribe names, not race specific titles.
Only the victors write histroy. Although dispicable sometimes, that's the way it is.

im starting to find all this anti-american sentiment really annoying. and down right offensive. i think it needs to stop right here and now. i know its oh so cool to bash america when the truth is nothing like what some people would love it to be. i dont find it any different than if a KKK guy starting posting on why blacks are evil. no difference. all this race bating and country bashing needs to stop otherwise this entire board is gonna delve into nothing but scum based posts.

Wow Janna...I would have never guessed AK would have ever, in a million years, fallen into the group that could be considered American bashing. I have this image of him being very patriotic (I might be wrong...but from his other post...I don't think so). A stand up guy that defends his Country from other rascally foreigners. Not that I see anyone doing hate crimes against America in these boards.
I think Janna you need to take several deep breaths, relax a little, and don't take these discussions so personally. I don't see him bashing his country anytime soon, nor Ion for that matter.

Ummm, I'm not anti-american in any way. I was just defending the native americans. If you think what we (americans) did to them wasnt wrong (killing 19 million of them and stealing the land that belonged to them), well, I just dont know what to say.

probably read it too fast heh oh well forget my previous post but i am getting tired of the "i hate america" theme when the person that proclaims it does nothing but that i dont mind arguing as long as it isnt a out and out bashing game  when i say i hate clinton i have tons of reasons why and can liekly exceed the posting limit if i tried. same for socialists. *shrug* oh well sorry AK i misread ur statement i was in hurry to post before the day caught up to me.

well, that would be difficult. the hemoglobin, which carries the oxygen is responsible for the red coloration. and since green wouldnt cancel out the red, youd have to find an alternate oxygen carrier that was a color that wouldnt kill the green. would be just a tad difficult.
