now i knw humans are truly "beasts"
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)
Posted by: Bunmiadefisayo
Well this is as off-topic as it gets i suppose
In any case i was watching the history channel and it was showing the history of Torture. My goodness! I was at once fascinated and sickened at teh same time. it is incredible what human beings are capable of doing to one another. In case any oen is squemish you really shouldnt read ahead 'cause i want to give some examples;
1) Spanish inquisition- they had an instrument called "The Pear." It was a 2 levered thingy that was put into one's mouth and slowly opened up; end result, the jaw was slowly cracked open.
2) england dark Ages- The rack. Im sure every one is familiar with this, the object wasnt to rip the person apart, but to break every bone in the body.
Rome, Crucifixion- no need to go into details here.
i guess this goes to show that, despite our "superiority", we are at heart no better than beasts?
This just goes to show that man will use any excuse possible, usually religion or political issues, to inflict horrendous pain on thsoe whom he thinks have violated hsi laws.
Heck thsi is a long post, i can understand if no posts result from this. I am just pointing out something that upset me and really showed me a glimpse inot the human psyche.

What did you envision torture to be before you saw this program?
Posted by: armystud0911
wait, are those the WORST? I have heard of tortures that sound a lot more gruesome than that. Another point though, to say that this proves that humans are beasts is entirely incorrect, beasts aren't nearly that cruel.

Ah yes...torture.
I'm so glad I don't have to torture people, I would have zero self-esteem.
Posted by: IceBreaker
Yet the most painful methods of torture are not those that look painful..
Posted by: Yumaddar
witchess - taking a pen and poking them all over their body to find a 'witches mark'. Ack.

Curare - beyond torture......
Posted by: TheeMon
i think we should put ways of torture down in this thread...
1) bury a dude up to his neck beside i giant ant hill and poor hunney on his head(i think thats only african ants but still)
2) drip water in the same spot on someones head for hours/days
3) rip each layer of skin(7 btw) off, one each day untill he has none left
4)very very slowly run them over w/ one of them road flatning thingys, heh
5) tie his ass up to a tree by his feet then periodicly beat him simple w/ a stick or something when you come to check on him(leave him up in the tree for months)
kk your turns
Posted by: Gerbilo
buried alive sounds bad to me... unless you have dealt with Pai Mei....
Posted by: armystud0911
water torture that would suck, there is one kind where they put you in a tank of water till all of your skin falls off and then your body rots to peices while you are alive.

Changed your avatar i see In any case i never really imagined torture at all. It is something that is very far removed from our daily lives. Maybe torture istn what i had in mind, i should have used the word "punishment" then maybe Armystud wouldnt be so quick to damn me.
In any case back to Thee's suggestion;
- Ancient Chinese torture: make tiny slits all over the body of the victim and then pour a bucket of freezing water over him. If anyone has cut themselves in iwnter and exposed it to the cold you will know how painful this is.
Posted by: IceBreaker
Oh? Usually, cold is supposed to induce numbness. And even though sub-zero temps can be painful, IMO heat makes a far "better" choice when it comes to torture http://forum.presence-pc.com/images/hotb.gif

Hey hey hey, watch where you're using my name =^ O^= [ Yeah I get that alot ]
Anyway, my point of view on this thing is that humans aren't really worse than any other beasts, it's just that we have the gift of knowledge, and the tortures that we come up with just come with knowledge. I'm sure if all we know was how to make fire, then all we would do is burn people for punishment.
Posted by: Antti2004
We humans are very self-destructive, especially when our leaders are greedy power crasy and we just follow them. No frontline soldier start a war, it is the ones staying behind in the 'offices'.

Homo Sapiens are the worst specie ever to walk the face of this planet. We use our ingenuity to exploit our environment and to inflict harm and suffering on all other living things......and we pride ourselves as "civilised". We are the only specie that is capable of enjoying the pain caused to others...... in other word, cruelty. And we are the only specie with the means to blow ourselves and everything else to Kingdom come. GOD help us. Sigh...................
Posted by: laborat
on an upbeat note...man will eventually torture himself to extinction and the planet can go back to being a planet.
As for torture, I have always been a fan of Vlad the Impaler.
Posted by: The-AoD
I always like the spiked casket myself.
Anyways, we're animals just like anything else on earth in respect. We've just grown alot more intelligent than other species. If it wasn't for our ingenuity, we wouldn't exactly be the top of the food chain.

Sorry I didn't mean for it come accross as damning you, I guess I was just expecting something that I hadn't heard of.
Posted by: IceBreaker
Vlad the Impaler eh? Not a bad choice
During his heydays as emperor of Romania, his people came to fear him more than they feared the turks with whom they were at war. When the turks finally (re-)invaded Romania & killed the emperor, the romanians declared the latter's death a national holiday!!!
Posted by: armystud0911
lol, I remember reading that somewhere, pretty funny, well not the fact that he was a brutal emperor and mercilessly slayed anyone at will of course.
Posted by: IceBreaker
Yes, actually it was it will that his people fear him more than they feared the invaders. Impalement had become the standard punishment for almost every crime towards the end of his rule. When several powerful landowners protested against his methods, he invited them to his palace - to a feast with sharp stones mixed in it. When his guests started complaining, he accused them of slighting his hospitality and had them, their families & servants promptly impaled!!
Which just goes to show that in some situations, even wealth can't bail you out - money is power, but not THE Power
Posted by: Kakarotto
I'm agree with all of U about that some humans are beast (not everyone) and even those change (sometimes) and make something to the benefit of the humanity.
The torture, sadism is an expression of how we grown up, where we grown up, I'm not saying that this is a justification to do this.
Also, I belief that human race got the knowledge and power to do things, I heard in a movie "With a great power came a great responsability" that's true and as human race don't understand this we'll continue being "the beasts" that U said. We haven't understand that we have the power and knowledge to improve our planet not to destroy it, to create life not to finish it off, to finish with the hunger in the world, but we do not do that,
This threat start with torture, but I also want to talk about sadism, what about the "movies" where somebody torture and kill to someone else and after they sold that (they have a name but i can't remember) who is the worst the people who do it, who film it or who pay for??
I also want to talk about the people who do things to change our lifes, thanks to them we can go to the space, we have medicine, cars, airplanes, and so many things.
I just want to say that not all humans are beasts

I got the message, I'm just trying to said that not all Homo Sapiens are like that.
Back to the threat . . . I few years ago I saw a program in TV that showed how the CIA torture to the spies.
For men I remember how the introduce a wire into their dicks and turn on a lighter and they warmed up the wire until red alive.

I see, all it was related to physical torture, does anybody out there knows something about the "mental" or "Psyche" torture? Gya, this too could start another thread, but does a "beast" merely inflicts pain with his hands? I remember the movie of StarShip Troopers, and yea, i played the game, there where a part when this huge Worm uses his psicokinesis ability to disable your soldiers, know this is a beast right? with inteligence? so where i am going, it exists another kind of torture with no relation of fisical pain? (Hope to still inside this thread) I will share one thing of me that really tortures me with no fisical pain, "Why i cannot know" I possible have the answer of this but i first want to see your answers

Sorry about what? Your taking things seriously is quite funny, actually - and a way of torturing yourself as well btw, to get back on-topic hehe - keep it up!
Speaking of torture...I still say, neurotoxins such as curare are in a class of their own...beyond torture, perhaps..
Posted by: Bunmiadefisayo
OMG Ice thank you, i was wondering how on earth we could get back on topic. The dripping water on one spot torture si quite intruiging. It depends on how mentally strong the victim is. Torture was unfortunately turned inot an art-form from 3rd century BC, up till now i guess. As technology improves, himans will find mroe and more ingenious wasys of torture. i wont be surprised if, in teh future, humans can apply pain down to the cellular or even atomic level. Imagine the sheer pain of usch
Sad really
Posted by: redwench
you wouldnt feel pain at the atomic level, im afraid.
Posted by: IceBreaker
Yes - pain "at the atomic level" doesn't make sense - pain & itching are transmitted by pain nerves - and a nerve IS a cell (yes, a single cell). So at "best" it would be possible to cause pain at the cellular level, but then again I wonder if it would be worth it - what's the point in such "cell by cell" precision? What's the point in causing pain in only ONE cell??

My personal favorites are the one from the middle ages for homosexuals, where they had to pop a squat on a square pyramid and be strapped down to the point, with the point going you know where. That, and having your fingernails messed with in any way. Whoo boy, if yall ever want me to talk, do something painful to my fingernails...

Tar and feathering used to happen a lot in the US, that would suck pretty bad, of course, its nothing like a lot of these but its odd cuz like a whole town would just go out and tar and feather some dude for breaking the law.
Posted by: AOTY2KB
An easy form of mental torture could be as simple as ordering your enemy 6 deluxe pizzas with the works and 4 six packs of coke. Especially if you do it from every pizza place in town!!

What would be just wrong is intoxicating the person with a chemical that relaxes your muscles, thus not moving and then inflict physical pain. Not only will the victim not be able to move, but scream as well, leaving no coping mechanism for the person. Unless there good at meditation and divulging stress.
Posted by: armystud0911
That would suck, but as I understand, muscle relaxers also dull your senses.
Posted by: Bunmiadefisayo
Heck, relisious pain is still the worst to me...imagine burning for all eternity "shivers" and never dying "craps in pants"

Fury> sorry m8, I'd overlooked your question

Actually, no: it's a neurotoxin (in the medical world these are known as muscle relaxants) - the OPPOSITE of an anasthetic. Neurotoxins only affect motor nerves, whereas analgesics (or anasthetics, sedatives, barbiturates, whatever) suppress sensory nerves only.

See the above - you stole my idea
Curare has been known for ages, but its paralytic, non-sedative effect was only discovered in the 19th century.
It would make an ideal torture method, but there are several caveats:
- Usually, if not always, executionners want to see their victims suffer. But since the victim is paralyzed, and therefore looks serene, even though there's a high chance he is undergoing pain, there is no way to be 100% sure..
- There is nothing to prove that the ability to move or cry out actually alleviates the pain. Showing one's pain is only a psychological response, and may actually worsen the pain (just because a person screams, do the screams actually reduce the pain? I doubt so)
- Neurotoxins paralyse ALL motor nerves - including those that control the diaphragm (breathing muscle) - so the victim will pass out for lack of air within about 30 seconds. Of course, one simple way to avoid that would be to provide artificial respiration hehe.. http://www.fintoys.net/yabb/yabbima...lies/sneaky.gif
- Fourth point, which should also answer armystud's question:
Quote:

|
In theory, no.
But at VERY high doses, neurotoxins begin to affect perception (sensory nerves) as well. So the poison must be administered in correct doses to achieve full paralysis without sedation.
- And finally, like you said when talking about meditation it won't work on a shaolin monk He might actually be able to move no matter how much poison has been pumped into him (you know, this "mind over matter" stuff)

Ice would make an excellent Spanish Inquisitor or better yet, a Victorian torturer. he could evne start his own "Torture" business. I can see it now; "Iron Maiden getting rusty? Rack losing its grip? Hemlok killing in two minutes instead of prolonging the suffering? Then head on down to Ice's"

3 mins later- in any case this thread has run its course and i got a lot of amusement reading the posts.
Oh and Hemlock is supposed to be instantaneaous sint it?"
