slugs, wtf?
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)
Posted by: TheeMon
what causes slugs to come to a certain spot?
outside my house there was atleast 3 slugs directly in front of my stairs, lastnight i seen 1... also my aunt says its been like that for years, + i remember seening them all the time before, my question is why only there?
Posted by: 9:35
If you were a slug, where would you go?
I'd hang out on some stairs too
Posted by: redwench
stairs are sexy
Posted by: armystud0911
slugs ussualy stay in areas because of the plants that are there, they love to eat roots and such, we have been killing slugs off in one of our flower beds for years.

I'm sure there's some sort of "plant" there that they like...
It might even be a burning plant...
Posted by: Bunmiadefisayo
Eat a few and let 'em know that they are way at the bottom of the food chain. Maybe they will leave well alone
Posted by: TheeMon
rofl haha bix! yeah first night there was 1 the 2nd night there were 3, i think the first one told his friends!!!!
Posted by: Gerbilo

Hmm...death by osmosis - a horrible demise...
...you could have posted that in the 'Torture' thread
Posted by: TheeMon
i dont wanna kill them... i just wanna know why there at my front steps all the time?
Posted by: Cettie
Because that's where the really cool slugs hang out.
Posted by: RAcastClarke
Bwhaha!!
I'm laughing so hard right now...nice answers..
When you say slugs though..I'm thinking of other things..
The answer is obvious. There are regular gang fights outside your house. After shooting each other, one of the gang members left the sepnt bullets on the ground. They always wind up leaving the slugs there because thats where their turf is...
Duh!!
Posted by: Gerbilo
hahaha
i could have said I salted them up to eat them
Posted by: RAcastClarke
Gerbils eat slugs..
mmm??
Posted by: Bunmiadefisayo
I hear that slugs are actaully a very good source of protein (whatever that is ). Or it could be ants?
Posted by: RAcastClarke
DUnno what protein is? It's in MEAT. MEAT GOOD.
I betcha all bugs are good protein sources...mmm..
I have some snails in my fish tank..hm...mmm...

No, I just love the way that people are posting here...it's great!!
I have nothing against slugs, I don't love them, I don't hate them. Though from this post, they seem like funny little guys.

Ever burn a cicada? They die too fast...there's no writhing in agony.
Posted by: RAcastClarke
Bix, that is just...awesome..bwaha!!
YOU NEED TO CHANGE YOUR AVATAR BACK.
NOW. PLEASE.
Posted by: Bix VT
For those of you that are all "it didn't do anything to you"...it came in my car. Any time a bug flies into my car, it has signed it's own death sentance.
So I took it out, got a can of starter fluid (the ether kind used for cars, not the charcoal kind) sprayed a ring around it after clipping it's wings, and then lit it. After that it was dead, but I could still see some color, so I soaked it's body and then lit it up again. The moral of the story: if you're a bug, STAY OUT OF MY CAR!
And yeah alright I'll change it.

MANAGEMENT
A good snail and slug management program relies on a combination of methods. The first step is to eliminate, to the extent possible, all places where snails or slugs can hide during the day. Boards, stones, debris, weedy areas around tree trunks, leafy branches growing close to the ground, and dense ground covers such as ivy are ideal sheltering spots. There will be shelters that are not possible to eliminate—e.g., low ledges on fences, the undersides of wooden decks, and water meter boxes. Make a regular practice of trapping and removing snails and slugs in these areas. Also, locate vegetable gardens or susceptible plants as far away as possible from these areas. Reducing hiding places allows fewer snails and slugs to survive. The survivors congregate in the remaining shelters, where they can more easily be located and removed. Switching from sprinkler irrigation to drip irrigation will reduce humidity and moist surfaces, making the habitat less favorable for these pests. Choose snail-proof plants for areas where snails and slugs are dense. Copper barriers can be useful for protecting especially susceptible plants. Though baits can be part of a management program for snails and slugs, by themselves they don’t provide adequate control in gardens that contain plenty of shelter, food, and moisture.

hmm...have they ever made any slug video games? I'd bet they would put you to sleep pretty fast...

Actually, I was thinking of some good game, esp. sequels, with excellent graphics BUT horrible camera systems (thus awful gameplay) - I play them just to find out how the story ends
"Worms" would be the closest thing to a "slug game", but even the 2D versions are quite entertaining..

hmm...wasn't there a video game called "Earthworm Jim" once?
Or am I just crazy?
(nm don't answer that last one)

the ability of Thee to generate a thread with 100+ posts, on a very mundane topic, never ceases to amaze me.

Thee's genius lies in his inability to interpret the signs and signals from slugs around him. When confronted with an unknown, he asks dumb questions in the form of statements often preceded by wtf!!! which are usually the hardest to answer since they often call upon speculation instead of fact. Nancy's nemesis was called Sluggo.

salt will hurt the fertility though so be careful not to use too much, and for those of you think that he shouldn't the poor slugs, every gardener I have talked to hates 'em they are pests and should chill in front someone elses doorstep.
Posted by: redwench
they provide benefits to the environment, or they wouldnt be there.

they may, but not to a garden- worms help gardens, ladybugs help gardens but let the slugs go somewhere else.

Idaho has had a huge infestation of mormon crickets the last couple of years. They are great fun to blast with a .22.
When they migrate their will be literally hundreds of thousands of them in a long train. We've had traffic accidents from them being all over the road and causing it to be slippery.

Eww man that's gross...I thought that whole cricket was only once and then it was over. I'd be mad if I had to drive over crickets all the time...imagine what that would do to your paint.

It has pretty much been an infestation here for the last three years in a row.
My friends were out shooting them in the desert yesterday. They said there were thousands everywhere.
Mormon crickets are not small either, they runa bout 3 inches long.
This article has a couple pics showing how big the damn things get.

Holy hell. That sounds like some fun shooting.

slugs are meant to be shot, thats why we call bullets "slugs" cause bullets are meant to be shot. Or something like that.

I've never seen it, but now that I think of it I have seen the box sitting on the video store shelves now and then. Looks like a real winner.

Plot Summary:
People are dying mysteriously and gruesomely, and nobody has a clue what the cause is. Only health worker Mike Brady has a possible solution, but his theory of killer slugs is laughed at by the authorities. Only when the body count begins to rise and a slug expert from England begins snooping around does it begin to look like Mike had the right idea after all.
