OS cannot connect to CD-ROMs

I have attempted to install Soundblaster Audigy 2ZS and Matrox
RT.X100 extreme cards. Since their installation I do not have
any sound and Matrox is having problems with Adobe Premiere Pro.
I decided to uninstall the Audigy. On top of that Norton
SystemWorks has decided to bail. I was in the process of
uninstalling that program and when I rebooted the CD-ROMs were
gone. The Bios sees them and the Device Manager sees them but
there is an error for both CD-ROMs. One is a Samsung CD-ROM
SC-152A and the other is a Sony DVD RW DRU-510A. I attempted to
go to their respective websites and download the drivers. There
doesn't appear to be any drivers for those devices. I checked
with other forums; desconnected the Drives from the motherboard,
one by one, reconnected and they are not workable. I believe my
next move is to take out the new cards and start from scratch.
Besides re-installing the OS, any suggestions?
