If your guestion is about IT then all depends of the PC you are using and the ISP connection between the receiving and sending locations. ADSL modems are fast, but so many hops (normally 4) wills cause slowdown, traffic jams on the information highway. If you had progran 'trace route' you could see all that hopping. 
But if the guestion is about something else, then the answers will be 18 years (age).
If the guestion is about PC, then the motherboard, CPU, 3D card (speed), hard driver and bus speed on the motherboard are the factors.
More filosofical answer, who knows, hope one day we will know why are we here...
