2 streaming questions...

Hi...I have a question concerning push vs pull streaming.
If a person using Windows Media is attempting to recieve a file being streamed from a server that does not support live push, the player will just sit there and say it is connecting but the live stream will never work.
Can someone tell me why this is happening exactly (this particular streaming service does not support live push to their Windows Media Servers)?
Hope that makes sense to somebody...thanks a lot!
