racial discrimination

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: JANNA

im starting to find all this anti-american sentiment really annoying and down right offensive. I kow this is the rants and raves area but it is not an appropriate place to go round race bashing or culture bashing. i think it needs to stop right here and now. i know its oh so cool to bash america when the truth is nothing like what some people would love it to be. i dont find it any different than if a KKK guy starting posting on why blacks are evil. no difference. all this race bating and country bashing needs to stop otherwise this entire board is gonna delve into nothing but scum based posts. just because it is directed at americans doesnt mean it isnt discrimination.

Posted by: redwench

aside from the fact that american is not a race, there is a difference between bashing and discussing. some people may find your political views about clinton, gore, and other democrats to be offensive. i havent seen anyone post complaining that you shouldnt be posting them.

either everyone should keep thier political opinions to themselves or we are free to post them. which is it?

Posted by: Chako

Janna, I have always been fair in all my postings. I do not attack any Country. If you read my postings you will see that I am just in my discussions on politics. I have views and opinions like anyone else. I dislike Bush...does that make me racist? I also dislike Prime Minister Chretien. Guess that makes me double racist in your eyes. You may not agree with them, but then I tell them from a neighbours view point. I don't think I need to reiterate those views here so that is all I am going to say bout it.
As for it being oh so cool to bash America...same can be said for Canada. I don't like bashing.

Posted by: Kdr Kane

I'm inclined to agree with Janna. The boards are starting to leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Hmmm, well, I kinda agree with wenchy and Chako ... this particular forum is for controversial topics, and as long as the conversations are kept on the intellectual level, there is no reason for it to sink down to the level of scum.

As wenchy said, I have heard no one "take offense" to JANNA's continued "bashing" of the just-ended Clinton/Gore administration (and I KNOW there are some here who are pro Clinton/Gore), and I think everyone has been a real sport about the issues. Almost everyone has been honest, and they are open about why they said what they said.

Is criticizing a political regime considered anti-American? I mean, bashing the past Clinton/Gore administration and criticizing the current Bush/Cheney administration are both in the same vein. So is it only considered anti-American if people bash the Bush administration, but normal if some bash the Clinton administration? I mean, there has to be some kind of middle ground there somewhere. It goes the same for any type of political administration from any country.

Politics is never pretty. Anyone who is willing to talk at length about politics in this forum should have been prepared for the consequences, because debates like these can and DO happen.

The same thing happened during the Clinton administration - he was being bashed left and right, by his fellow Americans no less. George Dubya is just getting the same dose - but from different places outside the US of A...

As for race bashing or culture bashing, I have only seen very mild connotations to that effect... any blatant insults to race or culture will automatically be deleted and the user will be banned - I already gave warnings to three guys in this forum just yesterday.

But today I may try and enforce a stricter moderation of posts ... just don't treat this as stifling the freedom to debate....

In all fairness to JANNA, I think he is referring to the rapid demise
of TGs old world conflict forum that was moved to Rstefans board.
It got vicious in there at the end and was eventually just abandoned. Intellectual debate is one thing, personal attacks and
flame wars are another. His thoughts on moderation I believe were made in that framework...and in some instances I agree with him...

Opinions are necessary in any online community whether we like them or not. Its how we confont new ideas that differ from our own. We can compare them and absorb the stuff that works and disgard the stuff that doesnt. No one on these forums that I know of are deliberately working toward the demise of US or Canada...No one on these forums can fail to understand that I think all governments are idiots...and have no problem with stating my views.

Where I draw the line is threads like the one where someone said President Bush should be shot...that is not good...no one deserves to be shot even idiots...Had I been moderating that forum I would have deleted that thread after talking with the poster for my reasons for doing so...My reasoning is simple...when you post stuff like that it peels away the politeness that we have toward each other...[For the record I think both Bush and Gore are idiots.]

One possible solution, Laggy is post the posting guidelines in a more noticable spot... I would hope that calls for death for anyone would be deleted...Don't get me wrong.. I have thought and felt the same way toward politicians at many times in my life...
I can also remember how bad I felt when Regan actually got shot.
I don't mind bashing countries or poking fun at them even...and I have no problem with that...We are all very quick witted in these forums and my hope is that we continue to use wit and humor in our postings... and not revert to the language of phillistines and Cub fans...

Agreed ... posting guidelines for the Rants/Raves will be re-posted tonight ....

Janna: I'm not america bashing. I'm Dubya bashing. You stop Clinton/Gore bashing, and I'll stop Dubya/Cheney bashing.

It's a simple trade, if you are willing to take it.

Edit: HA! Had to change d1ck to Cheney lol

Posted by: AK47

I toally agree with what Chako and Laborat said.

btw: I never bashed America

Posted by: Airbladus

JANNA mentioned culture bashing, so I'm not sure why everyone is starting do dispute about politics. I believe he was referring to material such as the below:
Quote:

nah ..theres no risk for u ..fbi only arests russian programmers so he can put them work for them

they would have no need for american kids because they cant program properly ...and also its and outlaw in america to arest ctyupid richass kids ....only poor russians are to be ****ed

damn i g n o r a n t r i c h m o t h e r * * * * * n g a m e r i c a n s

Frankly, I think the boards can do without comments like this. It was not at all relevant to the subject, and it isn't true in the least bit. Obviously this person had no knowledge of the subject and was just looking for a chance to stereotype all Americans in hopes of getting some sympathy.

Posted by: Chako

I am not that sympathetic to that sort of baiting. My original comment on that particular post still stands.

sorry guys i misread what a few folks were saying and was a bit hasty oh well my apologies heh that post shold explain a bit where i am coming from. if i have a gripe with a country person govt or political party i also have reason and am more than willing to expound on them. what i am seeing tho is a lot of rhetoric with no reasons behind it. if u think the RCMP is a organization for world domination (which i do as Nova is well aware) then by all means ya better have some reasons to back em up rather than just saying bush/gore/canada/america sux.

Posted by: laborat

I didn't say they sucked, I said they were idiots...
Canada is funny and the United States is only funny if you have a sense of humor.

Posted by: Shalome

Hey Janna.. just remember that one person's reason is another person's rhetoric.

And bashing is in the eye of the beholder.. some of the time. Whether or not someone takes offense at a post depends entirely on their personal opinion of the matter at hand.

totally off topic sorta hehe not bashing americans heheh
when i met laggy he told me and damage and a few others about his homeland so to speak and the situation there .
i was informed on the situation there and so did my buddy damage .
i was not surprised that laggy opened up a few eyes to americans at that sunday .
why i was not surprised ???
i think the news in the states is brought very single sided .
here in holland when a news item becomes big .. you allways have 8 different experts giving you their pov
damn hehhe
so instead of following those experts you judge on your own set of values ..
8 different opinios hehehe
christ

Posted by: laborat

Well, wargs not quite... It is true that the predominant view
in the News is the Official one, but then everyone else in the country comes up with their own...sometimes several versions of the same event can be held as views by the same person...
take me for instance... I current hold 26 Yeas, 42 Nays, and 30 undecideds...trying to get an internal consensus is as hard as
it gets....

Posted by: Kdr Kane

No, no, no. Laborat is all wrong. I believe everything I see on TV. I have ever since One Day at a Time first came on television.

Posted by: redwench

you know whats really scary? i get my news from bbc.com

its less biased and usually more informative than ours.

Posted by: Null Actor

cbc.ca here

Posted by: AK47

I get my news from Hustler.

Larry Flint speaks the truth

Posted by: Freak

yeah. CNN is completely American.

scmp.com - South China Morning Post...English version of everything Chinese. (No government censoring )

globeandmail.com for the canadian view on things.

that's about it hehe

Posted by: Chako

Yes, CNN is scary to watch. You can tell they have an issue and an ax to grind in their reporting. Very biased and news should not be biased. Noticed also they tend to sensationalize news stories. Are they competing for viewer ratings? I will admit though to a fascination with CNNs reporting of Operation Dessert Storm. That was a weird experience to say the least. You would watch the stuff, subconsciously know that people were dying, but everything was candy coated. I kept thinking at the time that the news should not be there, and my other side would say...wow...look at the pretty pictures...aren't tracers beautiful at night. Bah! I hope I never have to see coverage like that again!

The globe and mail is a bad source.

Chako: I remember reading in a tv guide: CNN: The Gulf War, Live at 7:00pm.

Funny thing was, this was in the tv guide before war was actually declared.

Funny how things are.

Posted by: Chako

Yes, I remember that also Nova. I had High School finals during that time. It was tough to study and watch TV at the same time.

Posted by: Digitalphatman

I have nothing really intelligent to say other than DAM, I LOVE LIVING IN AMERICA.

Posted by: AK47

I gotta agree with that.
