Hi, I hope that somebody can explain me how this work. In the factory we work in a network enviroment, I understand how it work, the question that I have is I connect my laptop to the net cable and I can access the Internet, how this is possible?? It's not supposedly that you need to configure the pc with the server? or U just use the connection like a "jumper" (I don't know the correct word) I don't have access to the others drives due to i'm not in the domain of the server is this correct?
Hope somebody can explain me this and increase my knowledge.

Thx in advance

I suppose you mean LAN. (Or not?) -> computers connected together so you caan share documents, etc.

First of all you need a network card ( i belive its already set in in every notebook)
You need a cable to connect the network card and the hub.
(hum is similar to modem; well most of times, you could have a box with 50 switches ) Just find a box, where cables from all computers are connected.
Considering you have winXP disable its firewall, or you wont be able to connect to the workgroup. (start/settings/control panel/network and internet conn/network conn; right click on the connection; press advanced)
Theres no need to be in same workgroup to see or access the hard drive.

Sorry, but i didnt understand your post alot, so i wrote the whole sequence for connecting to lan.

you are able to access the internet because the network has a DHCP server running which gives you the IP information even though you didnt log onto the domain. The internet connection (default gateway) probably goes through a router of some sort which doesnt care if you log into the domain or not.
