Hi i work in a software company. For our BPO services we use win98 installed computer. It does not shut down at all. i have even tried fast shutdown. but it does not work. we have mapped network drives to all computers. when u shut down the computer, it hangs in the screen "Please wait while windows is shutting down". how should i solve this problem?

My first suggestion is...upgrade to Windows 2000 Pro. My second has to do with remembering what windows 98 was like. I loved that OS and never had any problems with it. The specific problem you described happened to me once in a great while, but not continuously. When it got hung up on the 'windows shutting down' screen i would just tap the power button and that did the trick. It not a "hard" shutdown and does no harm to the computer since when you turn the comtputer back on it does not run scandisk. My thirs suggestion is that you upgrade to Windows 98 Second edition.
If none of those suggestions work for you, then check out these two websites for some free shutdown utilities that ought to do the trick...

first, make sure you have a fully updated OS running on all computers, all critical and recommended patches. you should be doing this weekly at least anyway, but some sysadmins are apparently pulled from the ranks of the homeless high school dropouts.
then you can try a scandisk and defrag (again, they should be scheduled for weekly), followed by a registry cleaner.
if it still is occuring after that, consult the MS support site and see if it is a known issue, most likely to do with the networking.
as a side note, NO software company should be running 98 at this late date, completely unacceptable. time to get into the current century.
