Logitech Headset microphone wont work

Yeah, I just bought a logitech Internet Chat Headset and plugged it in and all. I get sound in the headphones, but when I talk in the microphone it doesnt pick up any sound, only static. Ive tried plugging it into the other availible slot and it didnt work.
If it makes things better, the microphone doesnt show up as a choice as a recording option. Help me please
