can i install a second OS on my computer on a seperate drive without problems and then choose at bootup the one i want to use ? at this time my bootup asks me to choose from XP or 98 but only
XP works because i dumped most of 98 after i loaded xp because i did'nt think i needed it because XP was said to be the best thing since slice bread but now i learn differant.
i have a 30 gb harddrive partioned into 11 drives marked as CDEFGHIJKLM-- A is 144floppy N is the cdrom and i have XP loaded on D and i would like to load 98 on E as it is empty now , what are the dos promp commands i need to install 98 on E and do i need to format E again before install i think this can be done if i can find the proper command order

thank you !

The lower Windows (98/ME/2000) should be on the C partition and XP on the D.
It is not recomandable to install Win 98/ME/200 after XP, it can be done but it has to be moved to the C partition via very difficult way.
Tthe normal installation procedure for a OS is;
1) Start the PC with boot disk
2) Choose option 1
3) on A DOS promt type FDISK and clean all the old partition info away
4) create new DOS partition and activate it
5) start the PC with boot disk and choose option 1
6) on A DOS promt type format c:/s
7) Wait, go and have cup of coffee
8) on A DOS promt type E:/
9) on E DOS promt type setup.exe having the Windows 98(SE) in the
CD ROM
10) after installed Windows 98 install Partiton Magic 7 or 8 (very good
tool)
11) use PM7/8 to craete two partitions pref 3 (third one for safeheaven
for data, letters, images music, etc...
12) Install Wind XP via windows 98, tick (choose) in the beginning that
I want to select the partition.
13) When XP installation starts you will have te option then to select the
D partition for winXP to be installed.

Hope this quick guide give some idea.

thank you
are you telling not to try loading 98 on E, i hoped to use E because it is empty with 4.8 gb space where as my C is almost full 7.6gb and would take a lot of shuffling not to lose it during format
on #8] you said to type E:/ is this in order to install 98 on E if so why was #6] command c:/s and do you mean that i need to uninstall XP
first and start over with 98 and then XP hopefully i don't need to
because i don't have a burner or a zip to unload all my files this is why i wanted to put 98 on the E
what is partion magic and safeheaven ?
you mention adding a partition did you mean partition a partition like e or c and what would i call them because when i set up the 30gb hd
it would not allow me more than 11 partitions .
if this all makes sense to you great bercause im self taught and the teacher is getting crosseyed as some one else set the system up origanaly but not available to help me now .

thanks again
