Intel warns PC makers over Via chipset

ZDNN reports:

Intel, in its ongoing dispute with Via Technologies of Taiwan, is warning computer makers to steer clear of a new chip set from Via that could enable the manufacturers to build cheaper Pentium 4-based PCs by enabling them to use a less costly high-speed memory technology.

Intel claims that Via does not have the necessary licensing for its Apollo P4X266 chip set.

This chipset enables the P4 to run on DDR memory, which is bad news for the Intel/Rambus bandwagon.

I don't think anyone would be interested in a VIA chipset for a Pentium 4. The only advantage would be for the low cost. But if you're going to subject yourself to a VIA chipset, you might as well get an Athlon anyways.

I'm kinda glad I don't have to subject myself to Pentium.
