Global Devastation at hand?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: SKYHN

Warning: If you are easily swayed by the power of what is known as 'the internet' and are easily scared by any type of prophecy or other type of warnings where life as we know it is threatened, do not read this.

Many of you probably have been hearing about this for the past week or so now. But for those of you that havent, recently a supposed australian 'astronomer' has been warning people that 3 very large comets are headed towards earth. 2 of them will hit, 1 may or may not. They will cause global devistation killing at least 90 to 95% of the population. Now this can be put in the basket with the whole 'Planet X' thing, but this one actually has evidence supporting rather than theory. The astronomer also says expect to expect the first comet impact on June 19th or 20th of this year and then 2nd on June 28th or 29th, with the first signs showing up in the weeks before. The first signs of the 'comets' are smaller meteors hitting, then on June 8th, which is Tuesday, the sun is supposed to be blocked out by cosmic dust that will make the sky and moon turn red durring the day for an unknown amount of time.

In the last 5 days, there have been 12 to 14 meteor hits on earth, ranging from the size of a computer monitor to the size of a car. This is way above normal for even the current meteor season.

Heres basically the facts about it:

- All the governments around the world are preparing for some kind of global disaster to happen on or around june 19th/20th.

- The U.S. has increased an economic stabilization fund(thats not the exact name of it, but its something like that) to $120 billion, which is $100 billion more than usual and has never been done before

- All of the worlds navies are almost all completely out to sea. Only 2 carriers are in port, one on each coast and nearly every battleship and submarine is too(including the ones for Iraq). Other countries have nearly their entire navies out to sea right now also. This has never happened in the history of the world, not even durring world war 2.

- Nasa images that change at set intervals of the sun and other parts of the solar system have been being edited for the past 2 weeks or taken down completely.

- The royal family has been flown out to a british aircraft carrier, including the queen to 'inspect' them. Thats never happened before, and the queen is 90 something years old.

- Cuba is currently running drills on a exercise called "Meteor 2004".

- Vladamir Putin is staying in russia and sending a rep to the U.N. summit instead of attending it himself. He has not given a clear reason why.

- Many govt agencies in the U.S. and U.K. in the past week have been running daily drills for evactuation into underground safe bunkers.

- Dubya met with the pope days ago to give him a presidential honor, many say he would not kiss the ring in public because he was paying his last respects to the pope in private due to the coming doom.

- Dubya is also currently in europe very near switzerland(or sweeden, i forget) which according to the astronomer, is one of the few known safe places from the comets.

- Many people have had the thought that the U.S. lied to go to war with iraq and remove saddam so that a devistated world wouldnt have to deal with saddam, if he survived.

- Several of the sites that the comets story was posted on have mysteriously 'crashed' and the information was lost.

- The Govt has said before that they would not warn of a threat from space such as a comet or asteroid that would globally devistate until 24 to 48 hours before it would happen. For 2 reasons: Not to start a panic and just incase they were wrong.

- In january of this year, many HAM radio users intercepted a transmission from "Snowball Net" speaking of "Opperation Snowball" and "impact in 147 days" with data before and after. Snowball received a response from 'Burro" saying that the transmission was not secure and to go green. Theres a recording of it floating around, but its believed that the recording is a fake, while the message is true(the recording showed up just last week, almost 6 months after it was captured).

(theres more, but thats the jist of it)

Many people are trying to disprove the whole thing, but the only thing people are coming up with so far is 'Its a hoax' without anything to really disprove it.

Now with that out of the way, any thoughts?

Stock up at costco In a way it would really suck, but then in another way it would be like 28 days later without the zombies.

you cant prove a negative, particularly when the theory includes mostly stuff that is kept secret by the government.
heres a tip: most astronomers around the world do NOT work for federal governments and you couldnt get them to shut up about comets, they like comets. wont even go into the fact that meteorites are constantly hitting the earth. theres also no logic behind the statement that either of those countries would be safe, theyre both small and surrounded by other countries. and june 8 just happens to be --DUN DUN DUN-- the day venus passes in front of the sun, best visible in europe
do you really see anything on that list that is verifiable AND isnt a fairly reasonable occurance?

gotta love morons

Posted by: laborat

I/m hoping it's true. Then Me and my band can go on a World Devestation Tour...

I like it when RED rofl's it means all is right with the world and things are as they oughta be...

Quennie the II is not 90 something, her mother died something close to two years ago at 101. This makes Elizabeth the II at least 18 years younger putting her around the 80 mark. This would have to be some pretty massive asteroid to kill most of us.

Posted by: Null Actor

I don't see any facts there, facts come with proof.

Edit: Also, for the record, you would not be able to miss a comet in the night sky that was coming straight at us. It would be easily visible by this point, even to the naked eye.

The way you put it...I don't see how Queeno's age affects the probability of a comet collision http://forum.presence-pc.com/images/perso/666%20.gif

Posted by: SKYHN

The reason that was given why it isnt visible is because of the cosmic dust in our solar system.

And for the record, I never said I believed any of this Just was putting out the info.

Information links please

I'm gonna be pissed if some comet strikes the earth. My bro is gonna go buy a PS2 soon, and if that hting hits..I'm gonna beat that thing (the meteor) with a shovel. Goddamn chunk o' rock.

I hope it hits Goff's house. Don't ask.

That's too funny. First, the dust itself, if great enough to hide the comet, would also reflect so much light we'd be able to see it, since comets don't emit light, they reflect it from the sun. The only way you wouldn't see the comet would be if it was coming straight from the sun, which nears a gravitational impossibility.

On top of that, if cosmic dust could hide a comet that was coming towards us, we'd have never seen a comet at any time in the past, since it would be hidden in the same way.

Ignoring the whole comet thing for a moment, the part that I dont get is about the navies. Practically all the worlds navies are almost fully deployed. The U.S. has 13 ships out in the western pacific right now, with more to launch in a few days. The ships include carriers, assault, transport, frigate, repair/replenish and cruisers. There are submarines out too, but the # is unknown.

What are they doing? Their missions or where their headed has not and will not be provided and in the history of naval exercises, both war games an combat, there have never been this many ships out at once. Not even durring WW2. So something is going on. If its preparation for a terrorist attack or practicing for one, why are they way out to sea?

Posted by: redwench

its hurricane season darlin'. and they do much better if theyre out of port.

however, this is probably the reason, when combined with the iraq nonsense.

Posted by: SKYHN

These ships were out to sea well before Reagan died. Most of them 2 to 3 weeks before.

Remember when Ashcroft came out practically pissing his pants crying about a terrorist attack this summer, perhaps it has to do with that.

Posted by: redwench

we have large deployments in the middle east already. when you add in a large exercise, plus the normal rotation of forces, it seems perfectly reasonable to me. assuming that it is the largest historical deployment, naturally. i saw no mention of that anywhere.
comparing it to ww2 is silly anyway, we kept a lot of ships in port for defense then. we have no need to do that at this time.

Posted by: SKYHN

That doesnt explain the ones in the pacific though. The exercises are happening on the east coast by North Carolina. It could be though because china may try and take over some kind of channel in Taiwan, I remember reading that somewhere. But with our already strained relations with China, getting involved in that probably wouldnt be a good idea. Perhaps we could send spy planes to watch(oh wait...).

Posted by: redwench

lol

well, theyre leaving a week before the exercises. which is probably about the length of time it would take them to go through the panama canal, or make it to the vicinity of iraq to relieve the ones currently deployed there. or relieve one of the carrier groups in japan or the phillipines. a whopping 13 ships is nothing, i saw the may deployment for iraq: 50 ships from the us. thats just for iraq, nothing else. hell, if you want to speculate, maybe theyre heading for greece to provide olympic naval security......

the question really is: why not deploy them now? if there were a need to keep them in port, then its time to get worried. but its hardly necessary to keep an aircraft carrier in port during hurricane season, when we arent under attack.

Posted by: SKYHN

With our current economic status, anything that isnt necessary shouldnt be done. But when the govenator can send a private jet for $125,000 of california state money to pick up a sick california official who was suposed to be in south america on 'business' but was vacationing, I guess the govt can spend money on whatever they want.

Posted by: redwench

aside from fuel, whats the additional expenditure? the people get paid wherever they are, their food is provided, etc. im being simplistic, of course, but the bulk of the cost of a large group of ships is incurred regardless of wherever the hell it is. the purpose of armed forces is to do something, not sit on their asses. national guard notwithstanding.

besides, damage from a hurricane or terrorist attack in port would be rather pricey

Links to what? Most of the sites that have posted the comet thing have taken it down. Its mainly just floating around forums now. Bushcountry had it for a while, but I believe they took it down. Your not gonna find it on CNN or FN.

Posted by: armystud0911

hey I found a kinda umm, interesting site out there for all of those paranoid people who think that the world will end at the drop of a hat.
www.forums.armageddononline.org

Those kinda forums are funny. I was browsing one a long time ago and I remember just laughing so hard at "Jesus spotted near floridia, national guard on alert".

you asked so i answered

Posted by: armystud0911

well its tuesday and I didn't see the sun turn into an apollyptic red.

Posted by: redwench

well, it was red when it came up this morning. probably because were going to have a heat index today

Posted by: Null Actor

Yeah. It's too bad we didn't get to see the venus/sun eclipse today. Lucky bastards on the other big land mass. Actual event ended about three hours ago, before the sun was up here.

Posted by: IceBreaker

Can also watch it on PC (for all you computer geeks/webcam inveterates out there )

No doubt is permitted - we definitely have...

...a black dot on a clear disk

Posted by: Tecil

So yeah there is this big meteor hurling towards earth and we are all going to die in like a couple weeks.

Posted by: AOTY2KB

With about close to 10 days to live, I'd like to say, it's been great knowing all of ya, least your cyber identities. Good luck to all of you who try figuring out the age old question of what happens after we're dead.

Ice
The whole talk about the queen was in regards to the info being flawed. This and the asteroid would have to be at least a few hundred metres across to cause some damage.

Posted by: IceBreaker

Indeed - but if the meteor measured "only" a few hundred meters in diameter (ie. a pebble on the planetary scale ) I think even a conventional warhead would make short work of it..

Posted by: Atlas4

The sky was red from mowing the lawn today, and btw, have fun trying to hit an object a "few hundred meters" going god knows how many miles per second with a conventional warhead as you spin through space at many miles per second.

Posted by: IceBreaker

Well if the rock is hurling towards Earth, aiming at it shouldn't be too much of a problem http://www.fintoys.net/yabb/yabbima...ilies/wink2.gif

And if it isn't headed for Earth, then why bother (...)

Posted by: SKYHN

North America gets to see the next Venus Transit in about 8 years. It will happen durring the daytime here.

Posted by: armystud0911

The problem is that even if we blast that several hundred meter rock, the fragments of it could still destroy huge areas. A chunk half the size of a garage could wipe out an entire major city and also create a dust cloud that would put thoudsands of square miles in darkness for weeks

Posted by: redwench

not quite. a hunk that small would mostly burn up on entry

Posted by: armystud0911

I meant a hunk that was that small on impact.

Hmmm
just to get in on the story. A meteor the size of a large bus (greyhound type) or a little larger travelling at the speed that comets and meteors do is quite large enough to cause havoc on earth. If you take one say as large as medium size building, then you are talking major castatrophe. One say the size of a block would impact with such force that it would nudge earth out of orbit, this would then cause the end not the actual stiking of the meteor.
Nuke I heard, oh we can hit it with a rocket, please dont't make me laugh so loud I woke the wife up, (not a good thing to do at the nbest of times)
The actual mass of a meteor is so hard and travelling so fast that even our puny, yes puny by space and astro physics terms, would literally bounce off with even slowing it down by 1 mph. It wouldn't even deflect it either.
In the US you are rather lucky, (in that you could go see them) in that you have some holes and craters made by minor meteor strikes, from which can be determined the size and weight, these were however made thousandsof years ago. Like Red says there are hundreds of meteor strikes each year, but only small ones. There were however |I think it was a couple of years ago, quite a large strike in what was then the USSR. The strike did make the headlines as being of significance to the scientific community.
Regarding the dust cloud, that has already been stated but a short addition is necessary.
A dust cloud does not appear in front of a comet or meteor, but trails it, if any of you over there were fortunate enough to watch the Bop comet last yeaar you will remember what I am driving at. If you were unable to see this truely fantastic phenomina, you missed a great nightly show for about 12 days. Spectacular tails, jsut like fireworks lit up the sky behind the comet, I have forgotten just how many million miles long that tail was now but to be able to see it with the naked eye or through binoculars was really way out, and by far the best thing I have seen in the sky in my lifetime.
By the way QE II is 79 years old, not that that is relevant to anything anyway, and no they are not aboard any naval vessels out at sea this month either.
Thanks for the time, just my two pennies worth!!!

Slashdot reports...
Meteorite Crashes Through New Zealand Roof (Note: dun dun dunnnn)

freitasm writes "The New Zealand Herald and Stuff are reporting on a 1.3kg, four billion-year-old rock that fell through the roof of a house in suburban Auckland, New Zealand. Their insurance company will pay for the hole in the roof and couch and two holes in the ceiling. The meteorite itself, a chunk of an asteroid, could have been basketball-sized when it impacted Earth's atmosphere at 15km a second. By the time it hit the house, its velocity had probably slowed to 100-200m a second."

Posted by: AOTY2KB

Hey as long as we're still alive the rock doesn't matter

Posted by: laborat

That rock is expected to fetch a pretty new zealand penny...from a collector or museum. I am surprised the insurance company didn't seize the rock to help mitigate their paying off the claim.

Posted by: Ocean

i read the same story and thought about posting it in this thread. but damn i never thought about the insurance selling the rock. nice thinking laborat.
