I got s'more (one, actually) idea for OTS. Please listen, then shoot it down in flames after reading.
I think we should make a networking forum. I've noticed a lot of people have networking problems, or hosting problems, and other stuff like that. I think it would be cool to put that in a special forum. If not, fine. Just a thought.
Smith could be a mod for it too. He always helps everyone that has an issue with networking, hosting, etc.

I agree that there should be a networking forum, but I wouldn't want to be a mod, and Warcraft III hosting issues should stay in the Warcraft III forum.

Actuallyt Smith is called for ALL Warcraft 3 stuff. he should be a Mod, i od agree. I mean look at how dedicated he is. he doesnt evne bother with Avatars and such. Yep, real dedication

I'm not "called" for anything, I just tend to respond to Warcraft III threads before anyone else does.
The mods do a good job as it is, I don't think we need another one. Compared to most other webforums I've seen, in general the people at this one are very well-behaved.

just curious where did you learn all that stuff about hosting and such smith?

General networking issues either fall under Hardware or Software, depending on your issue. If it's specific to W3/Battlenet, then there is a forum for that also.

There was a networking forum when OTS first started, but there were only one or two posts in it every two weeks that we decided to merge it in with the Software forum to cut down on the number of forum categories we had (and during that time, we had a LOT).
Networking and hosting are two different categories, and depending on what is causing the problem, networking issues can be placed in either the hardware or software forum (related to gaming? pc gaming... router not working? hardware... ICS on Windows barfing? software... can't decide which category? miscellaneous... etc).
Anyway, I do agree with one thing. 'Smith is doing a great job in the forums, but I won't give him headaches and added worry by making him a moderator. He's already a well-liked person, why would I want to turn him into someone that will be possibly loathed by members in the future? Hehe j/k
Besides, it's a common misconception ... thinking someone who knows a lot about certain material should be moderator is actually counter-productive ... instead of having him free to help like he always does, you're suggesting putting more responsibility on his shoulders, by trying to "moderate" posts and keep discipline in the forums instead of using his energy to just do what he knows best... believe me, I wouldn't want to do that to anyone unless they actually want the added grief

Whoosh!!
Bam! Down in flames...

Ok now with all what Canis said, what makes one a good enough candidate for the Genral/ Offtopic Forums?
I nominate...ME!!
Oh and we dont hate the Mods, despite what may be thought. In fact the Mods are not really the abjects 'd hate . I feel its mroe directed to the "owner" of the site rather than the Mods since he is mroe prominent I am not saying I am one of those haters im just talking in general.

Everytime someone criticizes management, they don't single out "Canis Lupus" but the site management as a whole ... that includes mods besides, most of the topic deletions/splitting/editting is done by the moderators, so blaming solely me for pet peeves is more a personal motivation with underlying motives rather than a mere moderation complaint Granted I'll fall on my sword for my moderators, but I've had enough people who hate me from the four corners of the Internet... another couple hundred prolly won't hurt

yeah right, don't kid a kidder
Anyway, I think most of the old regulars here know that once you nominate yourself as moderator for any forum, you're automatically disqualified

umm im pretty sure not bum, also if we have a networking forum, i might be able to help(i have 3 semesters of ccna under my belt )

If we were to make members moderators just based off of their resourcefullness alone then Red would have been a moderator a long time ago. We all know that that would be pretty big hit for this site if she had to take on the moderating junk. (hey I just hit the "freak" mark, whats the next one btw and when will I get there?)
Posted by: Bunmiadefisayo
<shokes> Armystud is a Freak!!!! OMG i have been here since last year March and I jsut hit Freak a week ago
But yeah, i guess we can all be greatgul Red isnt a Mod, or else...

Umm... well, it helps that we've gone through three different routers and I've had to configure each one for hosting. I took a networking course in college recently, and if you hang out in the Battle.net OTS channel on USEast, almost every single War3 player that comes in says "I can't host". I have paid very close attention to the hosting problem since I first started visiting the OTS channel, and after awhile you know what to look for when someone needs hosting help.
I still remember when one of the "regs" in the OTS channel (can't remember who it was) once said something to the effect of: "any idiot can go to Blizzard's support page, read the articles and become a helper".
Blizzard does have a page about hosting, but unfortunately most people who go there don't read it carefully enough or they don't understand what's on it. :/
