My Frozen Throne doesn't work
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I recently bought The Frozen Throne and when i tried to install it, it tells me that i do not have Warcraft 3 installed.
I had a look in the registry and noticed that HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Blizzard Entertainment\Warcraft III was still all there but there was nothing under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software.
I know that i could just reinstall warcraft 3 but i am currently not at home, which is where my warcraft 3 cd is and i can't reinstall it without it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

This means that the InstallPath and Program values in HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Blizzard Entertainment > Warcraft III are missing or have incorrect data. When the values are missing, that means that you're on Windows 2000 or XP and you installed the game under a user account that is different than the one you're playing under. When the data is incorrect, it means that you moved the location of your Warcraft III installation.
In any case, in the key I mentioned there should be those two values. InstallPath should point to the directory where Warcraft III is currently installed, and Program should point to the location of Warcraft III.exe. If one or both of the values are missing, create them (they are string values). If they have incorrect data, change the data so that it is correct.
It doesn't matter that Blizzard Entertainment > Warcraft III isn't under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE branch, as it shouldn't be there in the first place.

Ok, I tried to create those entries but i was a little unsure about the exact contents of the value and where to put them.
The way I understood it was that under HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Blizzard Entertainment > Warcraft III there should be a string value named 'InstallPath' with the contents ' C:\Warcraft III' and another string value named 'Program' with the contents 'C:\Warcraft III\Warcraft III.exe'
That is what i have done but it still does not work.

If Warcraft III is installed in C:\Warcraft III, then yes, you set up those values correctly.
If you installed the game under another 2k/XP user account, you could log on with that account, export the entire Warcraft III branch, log on under your other account and then import the branch. I don't think there are any other values you need to check up on, but importing the entire branch would take care of those other values.
I could also export my branch, attach it to a post and you could download it.

I don't have access to the account that installed the program.

Hi, new to the forums so Hi all.
I am having the same problem as macca had, except some different background behind it.
I installed the game once, and have been using my backup of the folder to play the game instead of installing.
I now came to isntall frozen throne and it says it can't find war 3.
I downloaded the zip file u provided and installed the reg keys but it still doesn't work. I am using an cue file with the daemon tool to run the game as my cd drive isnt in working order. it is E:\ drive so i changed the key value thing that you had to F instead of D: (F being the daemon tools drive.)
Please could anyone assist any further?
I have the game installed in the default directory...
C:\Program Files\Warcraft III\Warcraft III.exe
AND
C:\Warcraft III\Warcraft III.exe
which do you advise I keep? would it do any harm to leave it as is?
Thanks

Looks like you're still missing some more registry values. You'll have to somehow find out what values those are, find someone with Warcraft 3 installed, and have them export them. Or, what's probably alot easier, just buy a new cdrom drive. Those things are pretty cheap nowadays.

did the export thing and it didnt work. Guess i can only do option #2 now

I fixed the problem by uninstalling warcraft 3 and deleting the registry files for it, then i installed it again.

hi, im having the same problem as all of these ppl, its not letting me install Warcraft III Frozen Throne. I tried ur registry it didnt work either. I was wondering if you could export the entire branch of warcraft III registry and attach it on a post for me? That would help a lot, thanx.

Hey all,
I know i'm quite late to reply to this forum, but still i wanted to ask something. I used to have a CD with the registry files, and it worked for me that way. What you guys forgot are two uninstall files, that are put in the Windows directory once you installed Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos. I don't have this CD anymore unfortunately, and that's why my question is:
Has anyone of you the 2 uninstall files in the Windows directory for me? I don't know the names anymore, but i thought it was quite logic.
Thanks in advance
Steven

I just had this problem and exported my Blizzard tree from my old user. Here is the registry file if this ever happens to anybody again. Just unzip and run, or you can open it in a text editor and see what you are missing.

You have a registry key that's missing or damaged. Reinstalling the game should fix it.

Not sure if my problem applies, I recently reformated my computer and just installed RoC but TfT isnt completing the installation for some reason. The installation gets about 70% of the way through then completely stops no error message just stands still. Any helps appreciated, I've tried uninstalling RoC and copying the FT files straight to my harddrive. Thanks in advance
