Computer keeps freezing when idle for extended periods. Hibernate is disabled.

Also, when using 'Envelopes & Labels' in MS Word, computer reboots.

I am using Windows XP operating system.

Post the rest of your computer specs.
Have you Tested your ram to see if it's the problem?

Thank you for your response.

I am using Windows XP Professional, 256 MB Ram, Athlon XP 1800+. Western Digital 20GB hard drive.

In addition to the computer restarting itself a number of times, I have now received for the first time an 'NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Error Message followed by the system restarting itself. I was told that this could be due to the Blaster Virus.

I have downloaded and run a Blaster Virus Cleaning Tool and installed a Windows Critical Update. After using the Blaster tool, I got a message that I did not have the Virus.

Although I got the message that I did not have the Virus, I still have the problem of the computer restarting a number of times. Sometimes the mouse also freezes. Please note that this restarting problem only occurs when I am doing Envelopes from the 'Envelopes & Labels' menu.

Please also note that I only got the NT Authority\System message once; since then, the computer still keeps restarting whenever I am doing envelopes.

I have Norton anti-virus software with firewall protection on my computer and had it before this problem.

I look forward to any help that I can get.

Thanks.

You need more ram. I would suggest a minimum of 512mb for XP. Your computer is simply using up all of it's resources. I would still use the ram test too to make sure the 256 you already have is not faulty.
