Hi, I have tried everything but NOTHING has worked... I have a radeon 9600 pro 128 Mo with the latest driver and a motherboard with built in sound card...
Anyway... When i play warcraft 3 on the internet the game just freezes... this can happen at any time during a game.... I deactivate the sound to see if that was the problem, and it did stop for 2 days but now its doing it again, even in the chat rooms! (still in WC3) I have a 56k... And have NO CLUE what the problem is... I have latest drivers....
Pleaze help me!!!
thank yuuu

You say that you've tried "everything"... please elaborate on that.
There are many causes of Warcraft III freezes, and if you've tried all the basic steps, I'd like to know.

Well, I did scan disc to see if there were any problems on my hardrives. I have also reformatted my computer once because of some other problems, and warcraft 3 has always frozen.. I then downloaded two file off of Bnet support that would set my graphics and sound to minimum quality et deactivating sound... This made the game work correctly for a couple of days but then warcraft started freezing again...
I then deactivated sound (I thought it was beacause i had a built in sound card to the motherboard) and everything went fine for 2 days... Then the problem restarted today worse than ever... I would only freeze during a game, now i freeze while chatting with friends....

Oh yeah, I also had a problem because of my video card concerning AGP8, but that problem was fixed with a new driver... the screen would just go off and the game would also freeze.. but thats fixed

Do you still have your sound/video options lowered/turned off from when you applied that registry file? If you hadn't already, the very first thing I was going to suggest you do is apply that file and see if playing under those conditions helps. Usually it does, and usually it indicates a hardware issue.
If the game is freezing when you're just chatting, I'd lean more towards a software problem than a hardware problem. I would suggest that you do a "selective startup", play the game and see if you still have a problem. How do you do that depends on your version of Windows, which you didn't specify.
Do you have the latest drivers for ALL of your hardware installed? The important drivers to keep up-to-date are your video card, sound card, motherboard chipset and modem drivers.
If you have an antivirus program installed, update its definitions and run a full system scan. Scan for adware/spyware programs too; two popular scanners are Ad-aware and Spybot: Search and Destroy:

And for modem i have no clue where to get them since my comp says its a generic 56k modem ... But i have an olitec modem ^^
Well thank you very much for your time and all of your help!

Here's how you do a "selective startup" in Windows XP:
Quote:
Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK.
On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then clear the Process System.ini File, Process WIn.ini File, and Load Startup Items check boxes. You cannot clear the Use Original Boot.ini check box.
On the Services tab, select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
Click OK, and then click Restart to restart your computer.

By doing the selective startup, you will close ALL non-essential running background programs, one or more of which may be causing a problem.
The latest drivers for your onboard sound and motherboard chipset can be found here:
http://www.asus.com/support/downloa...X-X&Type=Latest
You can also get the latest BIOS for your motherboard there too. I'd wait until you've ruled out everything else to try a BIOS update, though.
If you know what model Olitec modem you have, let me know and I'll find drivers for it.
Update your drivers, do the selective startup, play the game and see if it still freezes. Also run the virus/adware/spyware scan if you haven't done that already.

Oki I found the latest driver for modem thanks for everything..;
One last thing that has nothing to do with WC3...
When I connect to the internet 1 out of 2 times i am connected but cannot do ANYTHING.... when i try to connect to MSN messenger, it says that my internet browser doesnt allow a connection.... and i cannot do any research.... (nothing on internet) So i have to disconnect and reconnect and it works most of the time... if not i have to redo it... Do you have any idea what could be causing this problem ?
Well thanks for everything!

That other problem is random, apparently, so I couldn't tell you exactly what's causing it. If you're sure that there's no problem with your actual connection to your ISP, I'd guess that you might be having a DNS issue. The next time the problem occurs, type this into your web browser's address bar:
64.233.161.99
That is the IP address of the English Google website. If you type that in and the site appears, you're having a DNS issue. If it doesn't appear, there's an actual connection problem. To further test it, type this at the command prompt:
nslookup www.google.com
The aforementioned IP address and another one should appear. If they don't and you get an error, you're definitely having a DNS issue.

Well TY for everything
Im downloading all of the drivers but with 56k takes abit of time ^^
Posted by: Daemon-69
Well ... when i type in that IP adress it seems to work but when i do the nslookup www.google.com It doesnt work.... says it's timed out and invalid server thing... and i just noticed that when i put in the IP adress in the adress bar, theres a little message saying C:/windows/.../dnserror
If it is a DNS error, than what can I do ?

Umm... either the site comes up or it doesn't. Did it come up?

At the command prompt, type ipconfig /all and hit Enter. Check to see if your DNS server setting is correct.

Where does it say that, exactly? What's the exact error you're getting when you put the IP in?

If you're having just a DNS problem, obviously it's either your ISP or your system. I'm sure it's your system, though, since apparently you can log on, log off right away and the problem will magically fix itself. The first thing you should do is check up on your DNS setting like I mentioned earlier. If the setting isn't correct, then there's your problem. If the setting is correct, post back and I'll see what I can dig up in the way of DNS not working in Windows XP. If I had to guess, I'd say that some third-party software you've installed (intentionally or unintentionally) is causing the problem. A software firewall or adware/spyware comes to my mind...
Posted by: Daemon-69
Well I've never done this and have no clue what is suppose to be a correct DNS setting or an incorrect one...
Quote"Where does it say exactly ?"
It says it at the very bottom of the page.. Instead of there being for example opening page http://www.........
it says that message.

Well i did what you told me to deactivate all programs runing in backround and i got latest drivers and in normal quality game still freezes trying right now in minimal quality

Check your setting against what your ISP has told you your DNS setting should be. Call them up if you have to to find out what that is.

Yes, please try minimal quality again. If minimal quality worked fine at one point and absolutely nothing changed with your system, you must have bumped up one or more settings.

Well actually, I took everything off in the selective startup, EXCEPT for the sound thing... I still have soundmax digital audio runing... otherwise I get no sound... Do you think the problem may be coming from my sound card, since it's integrated to the motherboard ?
Posted by: NegotiatorSmith
Quite frankly I wouldn't be surprised if the Soundmax audio is causing you a problem, since it's kinda crappy. I highly suggest that you disable it and see if you have any more problems.
I was reading Blizzard's World of Warcraft tech support forum, and someone who has the same motherboard as you said that the v.1009 BIOS solved a restart problem he was having with the game and his video card... might be something to check out if you've updated everything else. Both World of Warcraft and Warcraft III are very hardware-intensive, and usually they fall victim to problems between two components, like your video card and motherboard.

Hmm okay I am downloading the bios right now thanks alot ^^
gonna see what i can do though about my sound card, cause i have problems with it in other games, like farcry... i get the sound 1second after shooting... ^^ anyway im gonna go see a computer store if they can help me with the DNS problem.... Do you think the problem will go away if I create a new connection ?

Quite frankly I don't, I think that something in Windows got corrupted...
Oh, and I mentioned the BIOS thing because the guy had an ATI Radeon video card, like you do.
Posted by: Daemon-69
Ahh yes thanks alot... So far, I have no problem but havent tested it long enough to really be able to say ^^
so far so good thank yuu Ill tell you if it still works in 3 days ^^
