Can't host games on wc3 tft!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi, I have a netgear WGR614. I have forwarded the port to 6112-6112. I still can't host but I have been looking at people who have different routers saying something with tcp... My forwarding doesn't show anything about TCP! Is this is reason it wouldnt work?

-Ubermcnoober

Also, I am connected by cable

In case you have any doubt about what you did, look here for the instructions you need:

http://www.portforward.com/netgear/wgr614.htm

No, there is no selection of the protocol, so I'm assuming that both TCP and UDP are forwarded.

You may need to forward ports 6112-6119 to get it to work, even though the game only listens on port 6112 (or whatever port you have specified in your Game Options).

Also, make sure that there's no computer in your router's DMZ.

How do I check if any computers are on DMZ??

I changed the ports to 6112-6119. I did all the steps the site told me to do but still doesn't work.

Click on the Security link in the Advanced section and you will find the DMZ setting. If the last number in the IP address field isn't a zero, change it to a zero and then click Apply.

Did you by any chance forward the ports to 192.168.0.1? If you did, that is incorrect, as that's your router's IP address. Use ipconfig to find out what your computer's internal IP address is. Forwarding the ports to the router's IP address is something I have seen many, many people do.

Advanced
Port Forwarding
Port Triggering
WAN Setup
LAN IP Setup
Wireless Setup
Dynamic DNS
Static Routes
Remote Management
UPnP

Which is the security link? Also, the ip doesn't have a 1 at the end.

In WAN Setup I found Default DMZ Server but it isn't checked. So it isn't active. It does have a 0 at the end tho.

If the Default DMZ server setting has a zero in it and it isn't checked, you don't have to worry about it.

As long as you're forwarding the ports to your computer's internal IP address and not your router's IP address (192.168.0.1), your router is configured properly for hosting.

If you still can't host when the router is configured properly, this means that one or more other firewalls are blocking the hosting port. If you're using Windows XP, make sure the built-in XP firewall is disabled. If you have a software firewall like ZoneAlarm installed, make sure it's allowing Warcraft III to listen for incoming connections on port 6112 TCP.

If you're on DSL, keep in mind that there are many DSL modems that double as routers. Should you have a DSL modem like that, you will need to put the modem into "bridge mode" or forward port 6112 TCP to your router in the modem/router's settings.

How do you disable window XP firewall?

Well, I don't have dsl. I have Norton Anti Virus but I disable auto protect when I go on WC. Do you have any more ideas?

PS. Thanks for the help

Follow these steps to disable the XP firewall if it's enabled:

a. Click Start, click Settings, click Control Panel, double-click on Network Connections
b. Right-click on Local Area Connection (this should appear if you're connected to the router) and click Properties
c. Click the Advanced tab, uncheck the box labeled "protect my computer..." if it's checked, then click OK

Norton Antivirus won't affect your hosting problem, but if you have Norton Personal Firewall or Norton Internet Security installed, it will.

Hmm, it wasn't checked.

#Service Name Start Port End Port Server IP Address
1 WC 6112 6119 192.168.0.# which isnt 1

is this forwarded correctly?

Posted by: NegotiatorSmith

Where did you get the last number in the IP address field from? We will know if it's correct when you tell me where you got it from.

Do you know if you're able to host if you bypass the router? Are any of the other computers connected to your router able to host if you forward ports 6112-6119 TCP to them?

Posted by: Ubermcnoober

I went into run, typed cmd, pulled up black screen and typed ipconfig. It pulls up the ip address.

Ill check if it works straight from box.

Posted by: NegotiatorSmith

If you ran ipconfig and you used what it said next to "IP address", that is correct and port forwarding is set up correctly.

Is your Warcraft III game port set to 6112?

If hosting works when you bypass the router, try putting your computer in the DMZ.

Posted by: Ubermcnoober

Well, I don't want to put it in DMZ unless I really have to. I heard it opens your computer up to viruses and all sorts of items.

Yes the port in options > gameplay is set to 6112.

I'm going to check if it works if I bypass the router now

Posted by: NegotiatorSmith

Yes, putting your computer in the DMZ is a security risk if you're not behind any other firewalls. However, if you could host when you bypassed the router, you should try the DMZ. Enable the Windows XP firewall, click the Settings button, click Add, fill out all the fields (private and public ports are 6112, protocol is TCP, use your computer's internal IP address for the computer name or IP address of course), click OK and then you will be behind a firewall.

It works when I bypass the router.

How do I turn on the DMZ?

Posted by: NegotiatorSmith

Put the last number of your computer's internal IP address in the IP address field in the "Default DMZ server" setting, then click Apply.

Posted by: Ubermcnoober

Woohoo I got it to work. Will the Windows Firewall be able to hold back hackers and stuff?

I'm going to check if WC works on my other comp.

Posted by: Ubermcnoober

Well the other computer can't host but that is fine.

Thanks for your help !!!

Posted by: Ubermcnoober

Hmm well I hosted 1 game and now I cant host anymore...

Posted by: Ubermcnoober

I set my static ip and now it works.

If you're going to have your computer in the DMZ all the time, you want a real software firewall, not XP's crappy firewall. I use Norton Internet Security 2003 and I haven't had any problems with it.
