i'm not sure if this is a software or hardware problem
sometimes, my xp pro, sp1, AMD 2800, AIW 9800 will not boot. the screen is just blank.
in my event viewer, i have the following error. and i always get the two errors when it doesn't boot.
i try to boot in safe mode and reboot. sometimes it goes back up sometimes not.
1st error

a fresh install of xp may or may not help, but you should probably do it. that looks like a modem error, unless you have something else on COM1, so if it persists, check your modem and motherboard.

I don't even have a modem.
I was thinking about reinstalling, but when I was about to reinstall, it booted again, then after a while it started to happen again.

Just a second ..
The error says ..
d:\nt\com\com1x\src\....
are you having only one partition and D drive being your CD rom ..?
Posted by: rpapa
that's right. d: is my cd rom, so I don't know where that directory is coming from.

That error shows some uncooked installations ...
This problem should be started after installing some software which wasnt properly installed .. Try to recall after which installation this error started ..?

unfortunately, I don't remember. and why is it randomly happening?
one thing I noticed, if i shut down my computer and leave the display properties, settings to extend to the 2nd monitor, this is usually when I can't boot. when I noticed this, i usually uncheck the extend my windows desktop onto this monitor. but sometimes i forget.
do you think they are related?
