They probably came across a surplus since that is the 2nd generation design. I know Majesco had been running new production of the 3rd generation unit (even smaller) and selling both it and Game Gears at Toys R Us for $20 each.
They are going by the MSRP on that. If it was new in a sealed box even on eBay those only go for around $40.

Yeah, I remember that 3rd gen gen. Shoulda bought one... just like I shoulda bought that second gen NES. I remember seeing those damn Nintendos for $35 at walmart.

Oops . just kidding, its WAY too expensive and anyone who does buy it is ridiculously obtuse . Never had a Genesis, although i had a freind who had one and we had hours of fun playing Contra on the bally thing. I'd like to get my hands on one though, just for posterity's sake.
