stops responding 3/4 through loading a game/replay

Alright, so here's my problem. I open Frozen Throne, go to either watch a replay or play a game on b.net. I'll use watching a replay as an example, but I get the problem on b.net as well. I double click a replay to load it. When it's loaded about 3/4 of the blue bar, warcraft just freezes. Sometimes I can alt tab and end task (it says warcraft isn't responding), sometimes I can't.
I've read through a ton of the threads posted and tried out many things like updating my video/sound/motherboard drivers, and all the other little stuff you can do. I'm really stumped..
Here is my cpu specs:
Windows XP
AMD Athlon 1.1 gig
256 mb ram
Geforce 2
Soundblaster live
Soyo SY-K7VTA-B motherboard
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. ps, i'm not much a computer wiz.

I hate to keep beating the ram drum around here, but XP simply does not function well with only 256mb of ram. Add more ram.......minimum of 512mb.

I can understand that. But my brother has almost the exact same computer as I do and he also uses XP, and he runs WC3 fine.
I just tried playing a single player custom game, and to my surprise I got in. About 5 minutes in though I got an error saying war3.exe was corrupt. I don't see how that's possible, it was a clean install. Man, my computer is the biggest piece of junk on the planet Oh yeah, I also blue screened after. :\

To test the ram theory without adding any at the moment, from a fresh boot, go into task manager and turn off as many uneeded programs running in the background that you can. Then see if you get the same results playing the game.

Your games should load fine with 256 MB of RAM, so that isn't the problem. However, I agree with nocode that shutting down ALL non-essential running background programs would be a good idea. Also run scandisk/chkdsk and defrag if you haven't already.
Are you playing on a specific map when this happens? I have played some custom maps that simply refuse to load beyond a certain point.
