My poor father is mostly blind, and has beseached me on a seemly simple quest. Im looking for a program similar to the microsoft magnifier, however with noticible improvments. As i understand it, hes looking for a program that lets him zoom in (doubles the size of everything, ie sniper zoom) Try using the microsoft thing, and you will understand the inherant flaw of having half the screen unusable. Any leads whould be appriciated...

what graphics card do you have? Nvidia has a magnifier function implemented into its forceware divers.

Microsoft has a different magnifier than the one that comes with windows. You can download it here I don't remeber how it works, but maybe it will work better.

Check out IE Zoomer. I use it just for webpages where i want to simply right-click, then have an option to Zoom in on what I am viewing. You can find out more about it and download it at...

opera (the web browser) also provides a very smooth zoom for web pages. as well as alot of functions accessable by mouse movements rather than clicking on tiny buttons.
high contrast may help some
there is a (start menu>...>accessories>accessablilty>narrator) that reads text on win2k and xp machines
object dock make an awesome start menu replacment that can fluidly zoom icons up really large. and provides other benefits.

My father is rather computer illiterate, so operas out (he has problems learning new things) besides he needs something that will zoom word also. He has a program that reads to him, but he still has huge problems surfing becuase of all the buttons and stuff sighted people tend to ignore.
Thanks for all the support, its more than i expected to be honest. Im afriad hes just up shit creek.

for ie.
teach him to use the backspace key to go back.
holdin control and using the mouse wheel for zooming.
f6 reaches the addy bar. enter runs to the site.
make the icon desktop size 256. and put common website links there.
and i know it might be a no brainer (surprised i didnt think of it myself), buy him a really big monitor
heres a quick pick of my desaktop after about 2 mins of tweaking to make it more legible.
the word thing stumps me for now. the row at the top is the object dock i was talking about. i think it could be beneficial.

The problem is hes so blind,( no pun intended) that with the icons and text enlarged to where he can read them, surfing becomes near impossible for ME, and i know the webpages! I think he said it best with "Try surfing with your moniter off"
